Description

PRIORITY SCREENING DATE: October 28, 2025. Open Until Filled. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. This position performs its duties primarily on the Kentfield Campus with occasional travel to the IVC Campus in Novato, so if not already residing within the Bay Area, the successful candidate must be willing to relocate.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under general supervision of the assigned supervisor, performs a variety of specialized research activities involved in the collection, storage, extraction, analysis, interpretation, reporting, and visualization of data related to institutional planning, effectiveness, accreditation, student success, and other areas required by outside organizations and used by staff, faculty and administrators for projects and decision-making. Utilizes scripting and analysis to maintain, update and enhance a relational database; creates, designs and produces various ad-hoc and standardized reports; develops data visualization tools; ensures accuracy and integrity of institutional data used for research, analysis and reporting; and conducts descriptive and inferential analysis standard in institutional research applications.

Essential Functions

  • Perform a variety of specialized research activities to support institutional and instructional effectiveness and accountability, institutional planning, curriculum and co-curricular programming, academic and non-instructional program review and outcomes assessment, accreditation standards, and external reporting requirements. Work includes a strong emphasis on data warehouse maintenance and quality, quantitative data analysis, interpreting and drawing conclusions from the findings, and preparing visualizations, dashboards, reports and other materials to disseminate the findings to support data-driven decision-making, strategic planning, and institutional improvement.
  • Independently plan/coordinate/conduct a variety of activities involved in the research, collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting of data and statistics to provide information and assistance for institutional planning issues, decision-making and program planning.
  • Respond to and evaluate ad hoc requests for data, statistical analysis, research projects and studies; prepare requests for processing; arrange and maintain project schedules and timelines; design strategies to complete assignments; analyze and compare a variety of data solutions; make team project recommendations to the assigned supervisor.
  • Assist with evaluating and responding to requests for complex or original research support from within and outside the District; works independently with requesters to clarify their needs and optimize the utility of research results.
  • Assist with the design, development and conduct advanced institutional research projects and activities to support external/internal accountability mandates in areas such as instructional and service performance, program review, enrollment management, matriculation, outcome assessment, assessment validation, evaluations, and staff development.
  • Compare data and identify errors and discrepancies; make corrections, additions and modifications as needed based on standard definitions and protocols.
  • Use data visualization software to develop and update reports, tables, and interactive data dashboards.
  • Using established enterprise reporting tools, develop queries for data extraction, reporting, and analysis, with an emphasis on automatization. May include identification of data structures and sources, validation of data, and/or access multiple institutional data sources using SQL or other programming languages.
  • Prepare a variety of narrative and statistical records, reports and files related to institutional planning, research projects, data analysis, findings, conclusions, decision-making and assigned activities; design and produce related charts, tables and graphs.
  • Provide technical support, assistance and training to staff, faculty, administrators and others concerning institutional and instructional effectiveness and related data and statistics; respond to inquiries and provide technical information concerning related projects, reports, research, practices, policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the IT department to ensure quality of institutional data development and maintenance of the data warehouse for enhancement in order to facilitate research and planning activities. Develop, maintain, organize and utilize extensive data files/databases using various computer platforms and software (e.g., database, spreadsheet, and statistical).
  • Monitor program and administer internal surveys using web-based survey administration software.
  • Input, process and update a variety of data and information in assigned computer systems; create queries, extract and manipulate information, generate links to data and produce various computerized reports for use in projects, studies and analysis; merge data from various sources to create datasets for analysis; create queries in the production of a variety of reports requested by staff, faculty and administrators.
  • Develop and implement analysis plans for complex data sets; examine and integrate information from various sources and of variable quality; provide insights based on systematic assessment of qualitative and quantitative data; evaluate regular research operations routinely to develop consistent and compliant reporting procedures.
  • Receive and evaluate requests for resolving data governance issues, data tables, tracking and analysis; process requests; arrange and maintain project schedules and time lines; develop and implement strategies to complete assignments within deadline.
  • Organize and help develop recommendations for performance metrics and clearly defined goals to assess and evaluate after the implementation of strategies and/or activities. Track and report strategic and annual planning deliverables at appropriate intervals, recommending to supervisor corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Participate in the development of policies and procedures that support the College's strategic objectives and annual goals. Perform complex research and analysis of policies and procedures to ensure linkage between the College's goals, strategy, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Apply evaluation methodologies to synthesize information gathered in planning processes. Analyze data, identify gaps, and provide comprehensive feedback to supervisor regarding program review efficacy and efficiency.
  • Monitor and check in with planning teams to assist with the production of required deliverables related to strategic planning, annual planning and program review. Track overall progress on college-wide priorities and initiatives. Produce annual reports on progress.
  • Attend and participate in various campus-wide meetings as assigned.
  • Participate in listservs, conferences and other external professional development activities to stay abreast of current Chancellor's Office policies, legislation, and other issues affecting the CCC system.

Requirements & Desirables

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Any combination equivalent to: a Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or one of the disciplines in education or social science, Business Administration or a related field and;
  2. Professional experience developing and maintaining relational databases, working knowledge of research methods programming languages and reporting tools, and hands-on data analysis and reporting and;
  3. Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and learning styles of community college students and staff.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a Master's Degree in statistics or computer science from an accredited college or university; or
  • Master's Degree in one of the disciplines in education or social science with an emphasis on research.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES (Desirable Attributes & Skills)

  • Excel, Access, SQL databases, or other database software; data visualization tools (Tableau or PowerBI), and statistical packages (Stata, SAS, R, and/or SPSS)
