Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

We are offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced analyst to lead the Institutional Research function within the Analytics & Institutional Research team. In this role, you will take responsibility for the IR function, guiding your direct reports to deliver research that enables data driven decision making. As well as leading the team, you will remain hands on with data analysis, reporting, and delivery. By leveraging both primary and secondary data, you will generate insights that support decision-making and continuous improvement across the university.

Mōu | Who You Are

To be successful in this role, you will have the following:

  • Master's Degree (NZQA Level 9).
  • A minimum of 10 years of extensive, relevant experience solving analytical problems using quantitative and qualitative approaches preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience independently leading and developing a highly motivated and efficient team.
  • Previous experience working in a tertiary education setting.
  • Extensive, proven experience conducting research and analysis in a large organisation.
  • Working knowledge of data science principles and applications.
  • Solid understanding of current literature and trends in higher education and its application.
  • Experience building effective working relationships at all levels across the university.
  • Extensive experience in and strong passion for empirical research and answering hard questions with data.
  • Experience leading the design, development, and reporting of quantitative/qualitative research including statistical analysis and interpretation of data.
  • High competency in SPSS, R, Jamovi, or other comparable statistical analysis tools, as well as a strong understanding of statistical principles.
  • Significant experience liaising with senior management, department heads, or equivalent leadership stakeholders.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Tātari Raraunga | Analytics & Institutional Research sits within the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) portfolio. The team plays a key role in institutional research, surveys, and analytics, ensuring UC has high-quality data and insights to inform decision-making. In this role, you will work in a collaborative and research-focused environment, engaging with stakeholders across the university to support evidence-based improvements. The AIR team specialises in analysis of learning, teaching, and research, providing analysis through Power BI dashboards, reports, and other digital platforms to enhance academic and institutional outcomes. Your work will contribute to a data-informed university culture, ensuring that research and evaluation support UC's strategic priorities and continuous improvement efforts.
