Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Senior Language and Learning Educator to join Learning and Teaching Unit, Education Portfolio, Academic Division.

The Senior Language and Learning Educator will partner with a nominated Faculty, and will work collaboratively with the Senior Educators and other Student Success and Teaching Advancement staff to develop and implement a faculty student success strategy that addresses all aspects of student success. The position coordinates, coaches and directs a team of Educators and may supervise Student Success Partners (casual professional staff). In addition to these strategic and operational leadership responsibilities, the Senior Language and Learning Educator will provide timely, targeted, and inclusive academic language and learning services and strategies. These services and strategies are designed to support the development of core and disciplinary academic and professional language and learning skills and attributes in students, such that they become independent, self-determined learners.

The Student Success and Teaching Advancement (SSTA) teams work in partnership with faculties and divisions to deliver a connected and impactful student experience. This is achieved through the provision of university wide learning, careers and retention support services and strategies, and building an engaged community of innovative academic practice and learner focused educational delivery using scholarly and data informed approaches. SSTA is a large section within LTU employing more than 120 academic, professional and sessional staff, and student partners..

What you need to succeed

1. Education, training and/or experience equivalent to the completion of postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications in a discipline with a strong relevance to academic language and learning work with extensive experience related to academic skills development, especially with students who have English as an additional language.

2. Demonstrated capacity to lead academic language and learning support in a challenging environment and to respond flexibly to rapidly changing educational situations through critical insights and analysis of data.  

3. Demonstrated professional leadership in using innovative pedagogical theory and practice in the design, delivery and evaluation of inclusive language and learning development strategies and services that meet the needs of a diverse cohort of learners.

4. Demonstrated ability to foster mutually beneficial, inclusive and innovative partnerships with stakeholders to provide timely and meaningful support to enable student success.

5. Demonstrated understanding of the issues which affect adult learning, retention and success in higher education as well as a commitment to working from a social justice framework.

6. Demonstrated ability to utilise a range of educational technologies and approaches as part of highly effective written, verbal and digital communication skills. 

7. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement.
