Drive meaningful impact by advancing Pharmacy education and research that transforms health outcomes in regional, rural and Indigenous communities

Thrive in a collaborative culture that values collegiality, mentorship, and academic excellence across teaching, research and engagement.

Enjoy an enviable lifestyle in tropical North Queensland with competitive benefits, relocation support and strong work–life balance.

James Cook University (JCU) is seeking an outstanding academic leader to advance Pharmacy education, research, and community impact in northern Australia. This is a pivotal opportunity for an accomplished educator and researcher who is passionate about improving health outcomes in regional, rural, remote and Indigenous communities.

As a Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor (depending on experience), you will provide strategic leadership across teaching, research, professional engagement, and workforce development for the Pharmacy discipline. You will shape the future of Pharmacy education at JCU through innovative curriculum design, high-impact research, and strong partnerships with the profession, industry and community.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of an innovative and accredited Pharmacy curriculum.
  • Drive research excellence by building nationally and/or internationally recognised research programs, securing competitive funding, publishing high-impact outputs, and mentoring early-career academics and HDR candidates.
  • Strengthen partnerships with the Australian Pharmacy Council, Hospital and Health Services, professional bodies, and community pharmacies across northern Australia.
  • Provide academic leadership within the College—including governance, workload management, staff development, and cross-discipline collaboration.
  • Teach and supervise undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degree research students.
  • Advance JCU’s mission to improve health outcomes for regional, rural, remote and Indigenous communities.

About You

You are an accomplished academic and registered pharmacist who brings excellence in Pharmacy education, research and professional practice. You combine strong teaching capability with a meaningful research profile, and you’re committed to advancing health outcomes for regional, rural and Indigenous communities.

At Level C, you’ll bring a PhD and a strong record of teaching innovation, curriculum development and emerging research success.

At Level D, you’ll be recognised nationally for your expertise, with proven research performance, HDR supervision, grant success and leadership in curriculum, accreditation or program coordination.

At Level E, you’ll be an established national or international leader with a significant research track record, major academic and sector-wide impact, and demonstrated success in staff leadership, stakeholder engagement and strategic decision-making.

Across all levels, you excel in collaboration, mentorship and academic leadership—and you’re ready to shape the future of Pharmacy education and research at JCU.
