Senior Lecturer - Automatic Control for Physical Systems
Expected skills:
Applicants must show a strong interest in teaching as well as a high-level scientific record in accordance with UGA’s ambitions. They must identify with UGA’s values, that is, being open to the world, emphasising ethics and scientific integrity, showing an interest in teamwork and being committed to the community. They should also have a sense of responsibility, in particular with regard to environmental and social issues.
Context and educational objectives:
Educational expectations
Relevant Academic Programmes
The Electronics, Electrical Energy, and Automation (EEA) programme at UFR PhITEM (Physics, Engineering, Earth, Environment, Mechanics Department) enrolls over 150 students from the undergraduate to master’s level. Courses are primarily delivered at the GreEN-ER site, in close collaboration with Grenoble INP–Ense3 and the G2Elab research laboratory, forming a major education and research hub on energy at Grenoble’s West Campus (GIANT). The first- and second-year undergraduate courses, as well as the Master 2 Systems, Control and Information Technologies (MiSCIT) track, are offered on the East Campus (Saint-Martin-d’Hères), in the immediate vicinity of GIPSA-Lab.
Teaching Mission
The successful candidate will teach control systems across the entire EEA program (Bachelor’s and Master’s), with a strong involvement in the Master’s in Electrical Engineering and Control Systems. Broader teaching responsibilities within the EEA disciplines at the undergraduate level are also expected.
Administrative and Academic Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to integrate rapidly into the activities of both GIPSA-lab and UFR PhITEM, and to take part in the usual academic service duties of a faculty member. These may include supervising interns and PhD students, coordinating and developing institutional and/or industrial projects, and contributing to program management. The role also involves responsibilities in the organisation and development of the PhyAuto experimental control platform, the EEA undergraduate program, and the EECS Master’s programme (e.g. course coordination or year coordination at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level).
Research project and scientific impact:
Scientific profile:
The successful candidate will develop methodological results in automatic control for complex physical systems in application areas such as transportation, energy, mechatronics, robotics, the environment, nanotechnologies, etc. The complexity of the system will stem, for example, from infinite dimension, non-linearities, network interconnections, uncertainties or faults, etc.
This research will combine skills in control theory (estimation, control, monitoring, diagnostics/prognostics) and physical modelling, which requires solid theoretical knowledge in control, with an interest in applications.
Context and environment:
For many years, GIPSA-lab has been developing research activities in the field of analysis, modelling, control, observation and diagnostics/prognostics of dynamical systems. The methodological and theoretical developments carried out at GIPSA-LAb are often supported by applications and in collaboration with industrial or institutional partners.
Information for candidates:
- Université Grenoble Alpes recruits on the basis of skills and makes use of all talents. It encourages applicants with disabilities to apply for teaching and research positions.
- Senior lecturers and professors are required to reside at the place where they perform their duties (Art. 5 of Decree No. 84-431 of June 6, 1984).
HRS4R certified and committed to an OTM-R (Open, Transparent, and Merit-based Recruitment) approach, the University of Grenoble Alpes recruits on the merits of candidates and in accordance with a transparent procedure.
