Expected skills:
Applicants must show a strong interest in teaching as well as a high-level scientific record in accordance with UGA’s ambitions. They must identify with UGA’s values, that is, being open to the world, emphasising ethics and scientific integrity, showing an interest in teamwork and being committed to the community. They should also have a sense of responsibility, in particular with regard to environmental and social issues.
Context and educational objectives:
UFR SoCLE (School of Societies, Cultures and Foreign Languages) comprises the following 9 training departments: Anglophone, Arabic, Chinese, Germanic, Hispanic, Italian, Japanese, Slavic studies as well as social sciences. Training courses cover the fields of Applied foreign languages (LEA) or Foreign and regional languages, literatures and civilisations (LLCER).
The appointed lecturer will teach in the LEA section within the Department of English Studies. They will teach a range of courses from L1 to L3 (Years 1–3), namely applied translation, professional language practice, business English, as well as L3 specialisation courses (management, international cooperation, specialised translation and/or environment, resources and society, depending on their profile).
The appointed lecturer will also contribute to teaching across the various tracks in the LEA Master’s. Depending on their profile, the successful candidate may be called upon to teach in the NTCI track (Négociateur trilingue en commerce international — Trilingual Negotiator in International Trade), notably the “Intercultural Negotiation” course, or in the TSM track (Traduction spécialisée multilingue — Multilingual Specialised Translation), especially for interpretation.
The appointed lecturer will contribute to the supervision of tutored projects and Master’s theses, in line with their area of expertise. They will be expected to demonstrate a strong interest in the professionalisation of programmes and in innovative teaching practices, particularly active pedagogies. They will have a solid understanding of how artificial intelligence (AI) tools work and their usefulness for teaching.
Research project and scientific impact
Scientific profile
The expected profile, at the intersection of English studies and the humanities and social sciences, is fully in line with the orientations of ILCEA 4, in one or the other of its research units: LISCA (English Literature, Societies and Cultures) or GREMUTS (Multilingual Research Group in Specialised Translation). It will offer new perspectives on key themes such as political discourse, migration, changing identities and the decolonisation of knowledge (LISCA) or specialised languages and cultures, socio-professional environments, specialised translation, terminology, eco-translation and the teaching of specialised English (GREMUTS).
The successful candidate will be able to integrate into the activities of GREMUTS or LISCA and get involved in the collective dynamics of the laboratory: publications, organisation of scientific events, setting up projects (IDEX, ANR, European). They will also play an essential role in training in and through research, in particular through the supervision of Master's theses and the development of collaborative projects.
GREMUTS profile and research proposal:
The successful candidate will join the GREMUTS team, working in particular on the areas of ‘Specialised language and culture’ or ‘Eco-translation and ecocriticism’. Their research will focus on specialised professional varieties of English and the study of socio-professional environments and cultures, as well as the didactic issues related to these subjects. Their research will also fall within one of GREMUTS' two cross-disciplinary themes: ‘Didactics and Digital Technology’ or ‘Socio-Professional Environments and Cultures’.
GREMUTS' current needs are particularly in the field of terminology, where multilingual projects in the economic, legal or environmental fields would be particularly welcome. Expertise in corpus data analysis and processing would also be an asset for this position, as would a basic command of free tools for linguistic or translation analysis. Proficiency in processing atypical data, particularly data from social networks or oral corpora, would be an advantage, as would a good knowledge of the educational applications of professional fiction (FASP). A good understanding of digital issues, particularly AI, would be appreciated.
LISCA profile and research proposal:
LISCA needs to strengthen its team in the field of British civilisation and postcolonial English-speaking societies — areas that are still underrepresented within the laboratory, despite their growing importance in the international scientific landscape. The recruitment of a senior lecturer specialising in these areas would consolidate what is currently only partial expertise, while meeting clearly identified needs in both research and training.
The successful candidate will be a specialist in British civilisation and/or postcolonial English-speaking societies. Their work may draw on approaches from the humanities and social sciences (history, political science, sociology, cultural studies, postcolonial or decolonial studies). The candidate will be involved in the activities of the LISCA research group and will be expected to play an active role in publications and collaborative projects at local, national and international levels. An ability to build bridges between disciplinary research and contemporary issues (discourse and political science, borders and migration, decolonisation of knowledge, identity changes) will be particularly valued.
The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively, develop and lead research. They must also be actively involved in one or more of ILCEA4's priority and strategic cross-disciplinary areas (https://ilcea4.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/laboratoire/axes-transversaux). For example, their research could fall under the “Politics, Discourse and Innovation” (PDI) strand (https://ilcea4.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/axes-transversaux-et-projets-recherche/politique-discours-innovation), an interdisciplinary axis that focuses on the following themes: Powers, societies and forms of dissent / Specialised discourse, representations and the media / Environment and Energy / Innovation, pedagogy, education and technology. Depending on their profile, the successful candidate could be affiliated with the “Migrations, Borders and International Relations” (MIFRI) strand (https://ilcea4.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/axes-transversaux-et-projets-recherche/migrations-frontieres-et-relations-internationales), which focuses on issues relating to identity/otherness, border territories and the lived experience of the border, sovereignty, empires and the postcolonial context, as well as the methodological questions raised by working with/on people on the move.
The work of the successful candidate may also help to strengthen interdisciplinarity with other UGA laboratories (LIDILEM, Litt&Arts, PACTE, LIG, etc.) in IDEX projects, within the SHS cluster and with other UGA clusters.
At the international level, the successful candidate will be committed to developing research projects and partnerships with UGA's strategic partners. In particular, they will be able to draw on existing collaborations between GREMUTS and UGA to organise international conferences and study days, invite foreign speakers and edit publications, including issues of the ILCEA journal.
