This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced academic leader to drive excellence in taxation education, research, and engagement at UniSC. You will play a key role in shaping the future of accounting and commerce education through curriculum innovation, applied learning, and strong industry collaboration. As Director of the UniSC Tax Clinic, you will oversee the delivery of high-quality Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experiences for commerce students, manage operations and compliance, and cultivate partnerships with the Australian Taxation Office, community clients, and professional bodies. Your leadership will ensure the Clinic continues to deliver meaningful impact for both students and the broader community.

You will also contribute to the continuous improvement and accreditation readiness of UniSC’s Commerce programs, embedding authentic, industry-relevant learning and future-focused teaching approaches that prepare students for success in a rapidly evolving professional landscape. Through your research and scholarly engagement, you will build UniSC’s national and international profile in taxation and accounting, publish in high-quality journals, attract external funding, and supervise Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates. In addition, you will mentor emerging academics and contribute to a positive, high-performing culture across the School.

You will:

  • lead and inspire innovative, practice-based teaching in accounting and taxation, integrating contemporary tools, technologies, and real-world applications.
  • oversee the UniSC Tax Clinic, ensuring strong governance, student engagement, and meaningful community and industry impact.
  • develop and coordinate engaging, future-focused curricula that embed Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and prepare students for professional success.
  • build and sustain research and industry partnerships that enhance UniSC’s profile in taxation and accounting through impactful scholarship and collaboration.

About you:

You are an accomplished academic or industry professional with deep expertise in taxation and accounting, and a passion for developing the next generation of commerce professionals. You combine scholarly excellence with practical insight, inspiring students through authentic, future-ready learning experiences. Collaborative and community-minded, you thrive on connecting education, research, and industry to achieve meaningful outcomes.

You will possess:

  • A doctoral qualification (or equivalent accreditation and standing) in Accounting, Taxation, or a related discipline;
  • Demonstrated expertise in Australian taxation, with a strong understanding of contemporary industry practices and regulatory frameworks;
  • A proven track record of effective teaching, curriculum innovation, and leadership in higher education;
  • Experience designing and delivering Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities and building partnerships that enhance student employability;
  • A sustained record of high-quality research with outputs in reputable, peer-reviewed journals and/or applied industry projects;
  • Experience supervising HDR students and contributing to a vibrant research culture; and
  • Strong academic leadership skills, with a commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and professional excellence.

Desirable:

  • Professional accreditation as a Chartered Accountant (CA) or Registered Tax Agent;
  • Experience using accounting software such as Xero or MYOB;
  • Experience with AACSB International accreditation and Assurance of Learning processes;
  • Familiarity with AI, data analytics, and emerging technologies in accounting and taxation education; and
  • Fellowship of AdvanceHE or a postgraduate qualification in higher education.
