Computational Linguistics is an interdisciplinary research field that deals with computational models of natural language. Computational Linguistics is also a research and teaching profile at the Department of Linguistics, alongside General Linguistics, Child Language Development, Phonetics, and Sign Language (please visit the department's website at www.ling.su.se). Research in Computational Linguistics has been conducted at the Department of Linguistics since the 1960s. The current research focuses on the analysis of both contemporary and historical texts from different eras and places in many different languages, with applications in language technology and digital humanities.
Main Responsibilities
The duties include research, teaching, course development, supervision, and examination at various levels in linguistics, primarily within computational linguistics, but also other suitable teaching within the department's existing course offerings. The offerings include courses in computer systems, programming and machine learning, mathematics, statistics, natural language processing, corpus linguistics, essay and project work, semantics, as well as an introductory course in linguistics. The courses are offered at the bachelor's and master's levels. The duties of an Associate Senior Lecturer also include participating in scientific, pedagogical, and administrative development work, as well as actively engaging in the department's research environment and conducting individual research.
Qualification Requirements
To be eligible for appointment as an Associate Senior Lecturer in Computational Linguistics, the candidate must have a relevant doctoral degree (e.g., in Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Language Technology, or Computer Science), documented scientific competence in Computational Linguistics, machine learning and large language models (LLMs), and documented pedagogical proficiency. General eligibility requirements include the ability to cooperate and the competence and suitability necessary to perform the duties well.
