Job Description:

About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lecturer to build on their established record of achievement in teaching, research, and engagement, and to shape the future of medical technology through impactful contributions to a globally significant field.

The global healthcare industry is increasingly focusing on developing portable, low-cost, and accessible medical technologies. Portable medical devices are revolutionizing healthcare by providing cost-effective solutions that improve patient outcomes and reduce costs. Medical Microwave Imaging is promising due to its non-ionizing nature, low cost, and ability to provide real-time images for early disease detection and monitoring.

To maintain UQ’s global leadership, we are seeking a Senior Lecturer to play a central role in Medical Microwave Imaging and strengthen research and teaching within The University of Queensland School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS).

Within EECS, you’ll find thriving teams driving innovation in areas such as Biomedical Imaging Technologies, Optics and Photonics, Electromagnetics, Signals Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Human-Centred Computing, Power and Control Engineering, and Data Science.

Key responsibilities will include:

Teaching:

Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess students, provide academic counselling, and adhere to university teaching rules.

Research:
  • Lead independent or collaborative research to achieve national recognition and impact in medical microwave imaging.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, students, and industry on joint research and funding applications.
  • Act as chief investigator in securing and managing external research funding.
  • Maintain a strong publication record in high-quality international journals and conferences.
  • Prepare progress reports and participate in regular project meetings.
  • Initiate and coordinate strategic, externally funded collaborations across UQ, nationally, and internationally.
  • Support knowledge transfer and commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.
  • Conduct impactful research that influences policy, practice, or commercialisation, gaining national and international recognition in medical microwave imaging.
Supervision and Researcher Development:

Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, and resolve conflicts.

Citizenship and Service:

Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

This is a teaching and research position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance.
