Overview
The Section of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry at the University of Gothenburg conducts research at the interface between clinical and preclinical neuroscience. The research focus is on:
- Neurobiological mechanisms underlying affective disorders
- Biomarkers for diagnostic assessment
- Predicting treatment response and side effects
- Individualized psychiatric care
The position provides an opportunity to develop an independent research program and to gain qualifications for promotion to Senior Lecturer.
Duties
- Conduct research on psychiatry with a focus on neurobiological mechanisms
- Seek external funding for independent research
- Develop national and international research collaborations
- Teach undergraduate medical students and specialist trainees in psychiatry (in Swedish and English)
- Supervise degree projects and doctoral students
- Administrative duties related to research and teaching
- Participate in department collaboration and outreach activities
Pedagogical training is expected within one year if not already completed. Swedish language proficiency (B2 level) is required for promotion.
Eligibility
- PhD in psychiatry, psychology, neuroscience, or equivalent research expertise
- Primary consideration for PhDs awarded within 7 years; exceptions considered for documented special circumstances (e.g., parental leave, sick leave)
- Ability to teach in Swedish or English
- Postdoctoral experience at a different institution is a merit
Assessment Criteria
Scientific Merit (Primary Weight):
- Ability to conduct independent research in biological and translational psychiatry or related fields
- Experience with quantitative research methods (neurobiological, psychological, clinical data)
- Track record in obtaining external research funding
- National and international collaborations
Pedagogical Merit:
- Supervision of undergraduate and doctoral students
- Teaching and examination at undergraduate and doctoral levels
- Experience in pedagogical development and course responsibility
Administrative Merit:
- Academic leadership
- Collaboration within academia and with society
Clinical Merit:
- Prior clinical experience in psychiatry is advantageous
Personal Suitability:
- Collaborative ability and teamwork are highly valued
Employment Conditions
- Type: Fixed-term, full-time, qualifying/career-development position
- Duration: 5 years (renewable up to 2 additional years under special circumstances)
Purpose: To develop independence in research and teaching
