Part time - 21hrs per week.

Location: Usher Institute, Edinburgh Bioquarter, Little France (on campus).

The Centre for Medical Informatics at the Usher Institute within The University of Edinburgh is seeking an exceptional candidate for the role of Senior Lecturer in Surgical Performance. This unique opportunity focuses on enhancing surgical performance through the application of psychology, patient safety, human factors, and sports performance techniques.

The Opportunity:

Join a dynamic and expanding team at the University of Edinburgh, led by Prof. Steven Yule. The successful candidate will lead and contribute to innovative research and education projects aimed at improving healthcare team performance using data science approaches inspired by sports and industry. Based in the Centre for Medical Informatics, you will be part of the Surgical Sabermetrics laboratory, a cutting-edge facility dedicated to transforming individual and team performance in healthcare.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • Research Leadership: Proven ability to design, implement, and manage research projects focused on performance enhancement.
  • Collaborative Expertise: Experience in providing support and mentorship to team members, postgraduate students, and collaborators (Desirable).
  • Educational Innovation: Strong background in developing and delivering educational programs related to enhancing performance, utilizing diverse teaching methods to enhance student engagement and learning.
  • Scholarly Contribution: Established track record in publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at national and international conferences.
  • Trust and Integrity: The role requires handling sensitive data and interacting with clinical populations. The ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with diverse organizations and stakeholders is essential.
