Applicants must show a strong interest in teaching as well as a high-level scientific record in accordance with UGA’s ambitions. They should also have a sense of responsibility, in particular with regard to environmental and social issues.
Context and educational objectives
Educational expectations
- The successful candidate will be able to teach at all levels of the curriculum (bachelor's, master's) courses on the 19th century (lectures on literary history, small group sessions on text analysis, specialized seminars, etc.) as well as, depending on the needs of the department, courses on methodology or general courses that include 19th-century texts (Literary Genres; Women Writers from the Middle Ages to the Present Day; Minor Literature, Major Literature; Narrating Life; Literature & Society, etc.). They may be required to teach on the Grenoble and/or Valence campuses.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing students for CAPES and for the external and internal agrégation (a selective exam for secondary school teachers), both by distance learning and face-to-face.
- In line with the research profile, educational projects may be developed with local cultural institutions (e.g., the Musée de Grenoble, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Valence, the Musée Champollion in Vif, the Musée Stendhal and the Musée Hébert, theatres, libraries, etc.) and in collaboration with other UGA colleagues (historians, art historians in particular).
- The successful candidate will supervise master's theses in 19th-century literature and in their secondary areas of expertise.
- The successful candidate will take on active responsibilities within the Literature Department and the LLASIC School. In particular, they will be required to take on teaching responsibilities (responsibility for bachelor's degrees in Grenoble and/or Valence, sitting on committes, etc.)
Research project and scientific impact
Scientific profile
- The successful candidate is expected to have an expertise on methodologies such as generic approaches to literature, material studies, modes of dissemination and transmission. They may focus on forms and media, as well as intermedial approaches and heritage studies. The job profile is very open in terms of the genre(s) of specialisation (narrative or fictional prose, theatre, poetry, etc.).
- The successful candidate will be involved in the activities of the research centre Charnières as well as in one or more “Axis” of the Litt&Arts, depending on their area of specialisation: literary poetics, intermedial approaches, reflection on heritage – these areas of specialisation are not mutually exclusive.
For example, according to the following areas of specialisation:
- Axis 1 Corpus: work on specific corpora, involving particular attention to mediality and media and involving digital humanities; editing of texts and manuscripts; analysis of literary creation processes, including their intermedial dimension.
- Axis 2 Transmission: intermedial transmission of texts and forms of heritage preservation. This may involve the exploitation of literary collections, the study of methods of preserving literary heritage (exhibitions, writers' houses, etc.) or the analysis of literature's capacity to deal with heritage issues.
- While the core of the research must focus on the 19th century, the successful candidate must show openness to earlier (revolutionary) or later (Belle Époque) periods in order to encourage cross-century and cross-disciplinary research within the laboratory.
- Depending on their research specialties, the successful candidate may participate in programmes run by the Maison de la création et de l’innovation (MaCI) or in activities organised by the SFR Création research group (e.g., the GeCLA programme). More broadly, the successful candidate will be expected to take part in the collective projects of the research centre and to initiate new ones, in particular by applying to local and national funding programmes.
