Expected skills:
Applicants must show a strong interest in teaching as well as a high-level scientific record in accordance with UGA’s ambitions. They must identify with UGA’s values, that is, being open to the world, emphasising ethics and scientific integrity, showing an interest in teamwork and being committed to the community. They should also have a sense of responsibility, in particular with regard to environmental and social issues.
Context and educational objectives:
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute generally to physics courses at the PhITEM (Physics, Engineering, Earth, Environment, Mechanics) Department and the Department of Bachelor of Science and Technology (DLST). They will contribute significantly to the teaching programmes in "Nanonciences and Nanotechnologies" and the "Physics of Complex Matter" track. They will deliver specialised Master's courses, particularly in physical hydrodynamics, rheology, interfacial phenomena (adhesion, friction, wetting), microfluidics, soft matter, and deformable objects.
At Bachelor's level, a solid background in general physics is expected to deliver lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions. The successful candidate will also participate in supervising internships and in outreach activities for prospective students (open days).
Research project and scientific impact:
Laboratory presentation:
The Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Physics is a joint unit of CNRS and Université Grenoble Alpes (UMR5588), conducting research at the interface between physics and other disciplines. Particularly, the "complex matter" axis, in a broad sense, is strongly represented at the laboratory and includes themes such as energy storage and production in/by nanoporous materials, flow of complex fluids or fluids at small scales, amorphous/granular/foam materials, polymers, ..., both in fundamental and applied research.
Scientific profile:
The successful candidate will join one of the laboratory's teams working in the field of hydrodynamics at small scales and interfaces. Specifically, the candidate can develop their research, preferably at the experimental level, along three main axes:
- Nanofluidics and transport: fluid and ion transport under extreme confinement, multi-scale couplings for energy applications (osmotic energy), separation and filtration processes (pollution control, CO2 capture).
- Confined media and interfaces: wetting and drying dynamics under confinement, interfacial phenomena - adhesion, friction, ionic transport -, properties of simple and complex liquids at interfaces.
- Soft matter and complex fluid flows in confined geometries: microfluidics of deformable objects (vesicles, red blood cells, capsules, droplets, colloidal and biological suspensions).
In general, the research questions will address the hydrodynamics of complex systems at interfaces in the fields of soft matter and biophysics, with potential applications in process engineering and environmental technologies.
Information for candidates:
- Université Grenoble Alpes recruits on the basis of skills and makes use of all talents. It encourages applicants with disabilities to apply for teaching and research positions.
- Senior lecturers and professors are required to reside at the place where they perform their duties (Art. 5 of Decree No. 84-431 of June 6, 1984).
- HRS4R certified and committed to an OTM-R (Open, Transparent, and Merit-based Recruitment) approach, the University of Grenoble Alpes recruits on the merits of candidates and in accordance with a transparent procedure.
