Expected skills:
Applicants must show a strong interest in teaching as well as a high-level scientific record in accordance with UGA’s ambitions. They must identify with UGA’s values, that is, being open to the world, emphasizing ethics and scientific integrity, showing an interest in teamwork and being committed to the community. They should also have a sense of responsibility, in particular with regard to environmental and social issues.
Context and educational objectives:
The successful candidate will join the teaching team of the School of Pharmacy within Department 2, “Medicine and Other Health Products,” and will teach primarily human physiology. A good knowledge of health studies and their organisation is desirable.
Teaching (lectures, tutorials, and practicals) will be mainly in the initial training program for Pharmacy studies and in the Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology for Health, as well as in various courses in the Master's degree in Engineering for Health (in year 1, year 1 International course, and year 2). They will focus on human physiology and pathophysiology: cardiovascular, renal, endocrine, and nervous systems. The successful candidate must demonstrate a solid knowledge of human physiology.
As part of the internationalisation of the Master's programme, the ability to teach in English will be appreciated. The ability to teach in French is essential.
As the teaching team is committed to pedagogical innovation, the successful candidate must demonstrate teaching skills such as the use of active teaching methods, flipped or hybrid pedagogy, and digital platforms. They will participate in the implementation of new teaching practices (e.g., practical work in simulation) and may be involved in setting up projects in response to various educational calls for proposals.
The successful candidate must be able to learn independently and demonstrate innovation, particularly in order to develop their teaching methods and other pedagogical approaches.
The successful candidate will be required to take on teaching and administrative responsibilities, depending on the needs of the teaching department (e.g., responsibility of teaching units, supervision of internships...).
Research project and scientific impact:
The successful candidate will join the HP2 “Hypoxia and Physiopathology” laboratory (Inserm U1300, UGA, https://hp2.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/fr).
The laboratory focuses on the cardiovascular and metabolic consequences of intermittent hypoxia, a central pathophysiological mechanism of sleep apnea syndrome. Our research aims to elucidate the biological mechanisms underlying the deleterious effects of hypoxia, in order to propose new predictive biomarkers of cardiovascular and metabolic risk and to identify innovative therapeutic targets.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Develop research in integrative physiology, with expertise in cardiac, vascular and/or metabolic physiology,
- Master experimental approaches using animal models (rodents), including surgical (e.g., ischemia), pharmacological and/or genetic techniques (e.g., KO mice), and the recording of physiological parameters (e.g., blood pressure, ECG, cardiac and/or vascular ultrasound, pressure/tension arteriography, etc.),
- Contribute to the development of mechanistic research through cell culture approaches,
- Possess solid experience in data analysis and processing, which would be an asset (e.g., programming and developing scripts for physiological signal analysis, omics data analysis, etc.).
The ideal profile is that of a physiologist capable of setting up and conducting integrative experiments, acquiring and processing the resulting data, developing a research theme complementary to ongoing projects, and strengthening the laboratory’s main research focus on understanding the links between intermittent hypoxia, cardiovascular dysfunction, and metabolic alterations.
The successful candidate must also demonstrate motivation and the ability to secure independent funding for their research, as well as to disseminate their findings through publications in leading journals in the field.
Expected transversal skills:
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Proficiency in digital tools for higher education and research
- Proficiency in English
Strong organisational and adaptability skills, responsiveness, and commitment to supporting and managing both research and teaching activities.
Information for candidates:
- Université Grenoble Alpes recruits on the basis of skills and makes use of all talents. It encourages applicants with disabilities to apply for teaching and research positions.
