Expected skills:

Applicants must show a strong interest in teaching as well as a high-level scientific record in accordance with UGA’s ambitions. They must identify with UGA’s values, that is, being open to the world, emphasising ethics and scientific integrity, showing an interest in teamwork and being committed to the community. They should also have a sense of responsibility, in particular with regard to environmental and social issues.

Context and educational objectives:

Local context and pedagogical goals:

The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of the French university system and the specificities of teaching Russian to French speakers (e.g. through a degree in Foreign and Regional Languages, Literature and Civilisation in France) and will be able to adapt to a diverse range of students. Fluency in French and Russian will be necessary to ensure the versatility required in a small team offering a wide range of subjects: specialised language (particularly in the context of Bachelor’s and Master's degrees in Applied Foreign Languages (LEA)) and specialised translation (economic, legal and technical), as well as literature and, more generally, culture and the arts. The successful candidate will also be able to teach language courses (e.g. grammar and translation, specifically from Russian to French). They will have the skills to teach at both bachelor's and master's level, in LLCER and LEA, and will be interested in interdisciplinary work and setting up educational projects.

The colleague will have the opportunity to quickly take on teaching (year, cycle) and administrative (departmental responsibility, etc.) responsibilities. Given the importance of the teaching needs and workload in the Department of Slavic Studies, the position requires a high level of availability on site.

Research project and scientific impact:

The successful candidate will be involved in the CESC's (Center for Contemporary Slavic Studies) research areas, primarily contemporary Russian literature and/or cultural studies (https://ilcea4.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/laboratoire/equipes-recherche/cesc). Ideally, their work will fall within the cross-disciplinary theme of censorship, chosen by the CESC for the 2025-2029 period. They will take part in CESC activities (seminars, colloquia, conferences, etc.) and will be a source of new ideas.

Their research will also fall within one or more of the ILCEA4's cross-disciplinary areas (https://ilcea4.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/laboratoire/axes-transversaux):

  • Cultural creation and territory (CCT), dedicated to all research focused on culture (literature, arts, aesthetics, intermediality, high culture - popular culture)
  • Politics, discourse and innovation (PDI), with a cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary focus (discourse analysis, specialised language teaching, politics, societies, digital humanities)
  • Migration, borders and international relations: the MIFRI focus, dedicated to issues relating to identity/otherness, border territories and border experiences, sovereignty, empires and the post-colonial context, as well as methodological issues raised by working with/on people in mobility

The successful candidate will be involved in setting up research projects aimed at obtaining funding both at the institutional level through local projects (IRGA, ADR, etc.) as well as at the national (ANR) and international (ERC) levels. Finally, they will contribute to developing the scientific network of the CESC and the ILCEA4.
