Senior Licensed Practical Nurse

Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Licensed Practical Nurse for the Acute Services at Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare.

Provides technical nursing care to child through adult populations. Performs treatments and procedures within established guidelines. Provides a safe and comfortable environment for patients.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Takes vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure on all patients and documents immediately in the EMR.
• Administers medications and parenteral therapy in accordance with established UBHC guidelines.
• Performs venipuncture as required.
• Collects and processes laboratory specimens.
• Follows National Patient Safety Goals in proper identification of patient before collecting specimens.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Three (3) years of relevant experience as an LPN is required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Physical Demands: Position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle or feel 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time.

Work Environment: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Functions will be carried out in certain areas, where hospital blood borne and airborne pathogens exposure control plans must be followed. Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crises, both medical and psychiatric. Occasionally exposed to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors. May be exposed to varying or extreme temperatures.
