Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Senior Portfolio Adviser, Communications and Marketing to join the Takitoru - Communications, Marketing and Digital Engagement team on a permanent, full-time basis.
As the Senior Portfolio Adviser, Communications and Marketing in Te Kauhanganui Tātai Ture - Faculty of Law, you will work in close partnership with faculty leadership, playing a pivotal role in helping the Faculty connect with its internal and external communities. You will act as a conduit between Te Kauhanganui Tātai Ture - Faculty of Law and the University's digital, communications, and marketing group, ensuring faculty priorities are understood and aligned, while supporting your faculty to confidently navigate communications and marketing opportunities.
You'll help to strengthen the Law School's community through connection, visibility, and engagement across staff, students, alumni, and the Wellington legal community. Familiarity with legal education, the legal profession, or adjacent professional environments would be an advantage.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the development and delivery of communications, marketing, and engagement plans for the Faculty of Law, ensuring alignment with the University’s overarching strategy and KPIs.
- Build and maintain strong, proactive relationships with faculty leadership, senior staff, and internal stakeholders to ensure priorities and opportunities are clearly understood and progressed.
- Oversee faculty communication and engagement channels—including web, social, advertising, newsletters, print, and digital—ensuring content is current, relevant, and consistent with university standards.
- Build strong, positive working relationships across the University, including within the wider Takitoru - Communications, Marketing and Digital Engagement Group, and with senior leaders, staff, and external stakeholders.

You will be skilled at relationship building, translating strategic objectives into practical actions, and work collaboratively to achieve results. You are curious, proactive, and genuinely motivated to take ownership of your work.
Key requirements:
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining effective relationships across dynamic teams with divergent stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in marketing, communication, and engagement activities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage, prioritise, and contribute to multiple projects and a wide range of tasks and interactions with several internal clients.
- Demonstrated ability to write communications and marketing material to a corporate, professional standard.
- Previous experience in the use of social media as a communications and marketing tool.
- Appropriate tertiary qualification in communications and/or marketing (or other relevant area), or equivalent experience working within a communications and marketing environment.
