Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Department: Department of Statistics, 24-29 St Giles, Oxford, OX1 3LB

We are looking for a Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow Reporting to the Principal Investigator Prof Yee-Whye Teh, the postholder will be a member of the Oxford Computational Statistics and Machine Learning (OxCSML) research group, with responsibility for leading and carrying out research pertinent to the project, as well as day-to-day management of research activities relevant to the project, e.g. weekly meetings, journal clubs, seminars etc.

There has been progress using GenAI, like diffusion models & flow maps, for inverse problems. The GenAI models act as data-derived priors, while observational information is included via guidance towards samples consistent with it. However these methods suffer from a variety of problems, including high computational cost, difficulty tuning hyperparameters, and uncontrolled approximation errors.

In this project, we aim to develop novel diffusion and flow-based models, and associated algorithms, which can more efficiently and effectively solve inverse problems, and applying them to problems in climate, weather, imaging and astronomy.

You will be Close to completion or hold a relevant Ph.D/D.Phil with post-qualification research experience in the areas of generative AI, deep learning, and inverse problems. For Grade 7, the successful applicant is not required to have post-qualification research experience, but will hold or be close to completion of a relevant PhD/DPhil. You will also possess sufficient specialist knowledge, research skills and interests in generative AI and deep learning to work within established research programmes and contribute ideas and solutions.

This post is fixed-term for 15 months.
