Job Description:
This is a 12-month Senior Postdoctoral Researcher position that will involve some graduate virology teaching support, mentoring laboratory technicians, junior post-doctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students (20%), and research (80%) in the laboratory of Dr. Shafiqul Chowdhury, Department of Pathobiological Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, LSU.
Job Responsibilities:
80%- The Senior Postdoctoral Researcher is expected to work on bovine herpesvirus pathogenesis studies, Bovine herpesvirus, and pseudorabies virus vectored vaccine research. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to establish an independent, extramurally funded research program in virology under the mentorship of Dr. Chowdhury.
Notably, this is an opportunity to grow the animal virus research program using the reagents developed in Dr. Chowdhury's laboratory. Research that addresses questions in animal host-virus interaction, pathogen virulence, emerging diseases is of interest. (50%).
20%- Provide teaching support for graduate virology courses, mentoring laboratory technicians, graduate and undergraduate students. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph. D. or DVM and 3 years of experience in bovine herpesvirus and pseudorabies virus vectored vaccines, and vaccine efficacy studies in large animals.
Preferred Qualifications:
Post-doctoral research experience with relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals. DVM or equivalent and a Ph.D. degree in molecular virology, emphasizing herpesviruses. In addition, post-doctoral research experience in molecular virology, genetic manipulation of viruses, genetically engineered vaccine research, vaccine efficacy studies in cattle, pigs, sheep or goats, dogs, and cats. Experience inmolecular virology, emphasizing herpesviruses, post-doctoral research experience in bovine herpesvirus and pseudorabies virus vectored vaccines, and vaccine efficacy studies in large animals.
Special and Physical Qualifications:
Emergency Essential Personnel - This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.
