Definition
In accordance with the organizational structure and overall plan of Cape Fear Community College, this Program Director reports to the Dean of Health and Human Services. The principal purpose of this position is to participate in and supervise the design, planning, organization, implementation, and continuous evaluation of the Early Childhood Education Programs and provide oversight over the Director of the Bonnie Sanders Burney Child Development Center and the Director of the Drop-In Childcare Center.
Supervision Received and Exercised
- Reports to the Dean of Health and Human Services (HHS)
- Exercises supervision over assigned faculty
- Exercises supervision over the directors of the Bonnie Sanders Burney Child Development Center and the Director of the Drop-In Childcare Center
- May indirectly supervise administrative staff
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Essential Duties:
- Assists in the design of the organizational structure and coordinates all instructional activities within the program, including developing core course syllabi, preparing semester class schedules, selecting textbooks, requisitioning supplies, maintaining records, making recommendations for program development, and encouraging innovative teaching techniques.
- Works collaboratively with the Director of the Child Development Center to ensure effective operation and serve as a lab setting for student experiences.
- Works collaboratively with the Director of the Drop-In Childcare Center to ensure effective operation and serve as a lab setting for student experiences.
- Coordinates and participates in recruitment activities, marketing, advising, and retention efforts.
- Assists in the development and administration of the program budget and monitors budgets for related centers.
- Assists in the selection, orientation, and supervision of faculty.
- Maintains teaching responsibilities and monitors faculty records.
- Participates in assessing program outcomes and making improvements.
- Serves as an advisor and provides office hours.
- Maintains relationships with external partners and ensures program advisory committee meetings occur.
- Completes evaluations and engages in professional development.
- Obtains and maintains program accreditation through NAEYC.
- Serves as liaison with other departments and organizations.
- Serves on assigned college committees.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge of organizational and management practices, budget preparation, supervision, laws, curriculum development, NAEYC standards, and instructional techniques.
Ability to interpret policies, analyze problems, supervise staff, administer budgets, and communicate effectively.
Education and Experience: Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with 18 credit hours, five years in the profession, three years of teaching experience (at least two in higher education), and familiarity with licensing standards. Preferred: NC Teaching License, NAEYC experience, and supervision experience.
