Senior Research Fellow

NDM Experimental Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford

About the Role

The post holder will be based within the Modernising Medical Microbiology (MMM) Unit in the Experimental Medicine division of the Nuffield Department of Medicine, working on infectious diseases with a focus on fungal disease. Areas of research might include but are not limited to fungal genomics, fungal disease and climate change, AMR and novel approaches to drug development, the immune response to fungal infections, and anti-fungal vaccine development. The post holder will be expected to attract external funding for their research. The successful applicant will be joining a new program at the University of Oxford on Fungal Biology in Human Health and Disease, funded by Oxford’s Strategic Research Fund, and involving, in addition to the NDM, the Department of Biology and the AMR group (the Ineos Oxford Institute). The post holder will join a rich environment within MMM, including a strong partnership with colleagues in the Oxford University Hospital, the Vaccine Research Group, the Jenner Institute, the Pandemic Sciences Institute, the three linked Wellcome Programmes in Kenya, Vietnam, and Thailand, and the Ellison Institute in Oxford.

About You

You should:

  • Hold a medical degree - Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent
  • Hold a CCT in infectious disease or clinical microbiology and be on the specialist register of the GMC and have a licence to practice in the UK
  • Hold or be in a position to secure an honorary contract with the OUH NHS Trust (or agreed suitable alternative trust)
  • Demonstrable research experience, with the ability to develop an understanding of complex problems and apply in-depth knowledge to address these
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to credibly engage with a range of people across Oxford medicine
