The purpose of the post is to explore functional genomic methods to understand the molecular mechanisms of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). The role involves collaborating with teams including pathologists, hepatologists, and data scientists.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) in coordinating and leading multiple wet lab projects, proposing research directions, and meeting key project milestones.
  • Facilitating research team development, optimization, and validation of in vitro mammalian cell-based assays related to metabolic diseases, such as cell culture, RNA/protein extraction, qPCR, western blotting, and other metabolic-related assays.
  • Performing other related duties, such as conducting data analysis, ensuring the validity and reliability of data, maintaining accurate records, and presenting findings to colleagues.
  • Assisting the PI with writing for ethics/grant applications.
  • Assisting the PI with organizing and publishing findings in high-impact academic journals.

Qualifications required:

  • A PhD with 3 years of relevant post-doctoral experience.
  • Understanding of the molecular/cellular basis of MAFLD, obesity, and T2D (e.g., lipid metabolism dysregulation, insulin resistance, inflammatory pathways).
  • Experience in handling 2D and 3D cell cultures such as hepatocytes, adipocytes, or skeletal muscle cells.
  • Molecular biology skills (RNA/protein extraction, qPCR, western blotting, immunofluorescence).
  • Familiarity with cell line and clinical data multi-omics (e.g., transcriptomics, proteomics) is a plus.
  • Experience with gene perturbation tools such as siRNA, shRNA, and CRISPR/Cas9 is a plus.
  • Experience with murine models is a plus.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills in English.
  • Highly organized, with skills in working independently and creatively to solve experimental problems within time constraints.
  • Ability to oversee research directions for multiple projects and work in a multidisciplinary team.

Applicants should send a cover letter highlighting relevant experience and career goals, curriculum vitae with details of three named referees, and a complete NUS Personal Data Consent for Job Applicants form to the specified email.
