Job Description Summary

The position will perform molecular virology experiments to explore the nature of HIV latency and the effects of host immune responses and therapeutic strategies to eradicate or control the HIV reservoir. The researcher will need experience in molecular virology, including PCR, sequence analysis, cloning, infectivity and entry assays, and other cell culture-based techniques. Prior experience working with viruses and BSL II agents is preferred. PhD with several years of experience post-graduation is preferred. The individual will be expected to design and perform experiments, analyze results and generate figures, assist in manuscript preparation, be a strong communicator, and be able to work well in collaborative projects. Applicants with prior publications and presentations in biomedical science are preferred. Experience processing biospecimens, including blood and tissues, is preferred.

Job Description

The Infectious Diseases Division within the Department of Medicine is seeking a full time Senior Research Investigator to work as part of Dr. Katharine Bar's translational HIV research lab, with a focus on understanding how HIV persists through antiretroviral therapy and how we can improve HIV cure strategies. The candidate will perform molecular virology experiments to explore the nature of HIV latency and the effects of host immune responses and therapeutic strategies to eradicate or control the HIV reservoir. The researcher will need experience in molecular virology, including PCR, sequence analysis, cloning, infectivity and entry assays, and other cell culture based techniques. Prior experience working with viruses and BSL II agents is preferred. PhD with several years experience post-graduation is preferred. The individual will be expected to design and perform experiments, analyze results and generate figures, assist in manuscript preparation, be a strong communicator, and be able to work well in collaborative projects. Applicants with prior publications and presentations in biomedical science preferred. Experience processing biospecimens, including blood and tissues is preferred. Experience working with viruses in cell culture strongly preferred. Willingness to supervise graduate students and post-doctoral students is required.

DUTIES:

  • Design, perform and analyze molecular virology experiments, including sequencing, cloning, and infectivity assays
  • Perform cell culture based assays to assess virus phenotype
  • Process biospecimens
  • Analyze, synthesize, generate figures and communicate results of experiments
  • Supervise students and technicians
  • Assist in ordering, lab management, and regulatory compliance issues
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Philosophy, and 5 to 7 years of postdoctoral experience is required. Experience with molecular biology and sequencing is required. Experience working with viruses in cell culture strongly preferred. Experience processing biospecimens, including blood and tissues is preferred. Prior experience working with viruses and BSL II agents is preferred. HIV research experience preferred. Applicants with prior publications and presentations in biomedical science preferred.

Position is contingent upon continued funding.
