Senior Research Laboratory Technician (Part Time)(Fixed Term)
Applications are invited for the position of Senior Chemistry Research Laboratory Technician in the Molecular Imaging Chemistry Laboratory (MICL), a leading chemistry research facility specialising in the design, development and preparation of imaging probes for molecular imaging. The laboratory works closely with various clinical and research imaging groups at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, as well as with collaborators in Cambridge and elsewhere, such as Cancer Research UK.
Professor Franklin Aigbirhio is director of the MICL. He is the Principal Investigator for the research team, which includes both post-doctoral researchers and students undertaking their MPhil and PhD research projects.
The MICL compliments the nearby Radiopharmaceutical Unit, which undertakes good manufacturing practice (GMP) for the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals for clinical imaging at the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre. The MICL is located at the West Forvie Building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
The successful candidate for this post will provide technical support to the research group to ensure the smooth running of the MICL. This will include maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment and apparatus; support for researchers' experimental work, stock control and ordering of consumables and equipment; ensuring health and safety requirements are adhered to; and undertaking relevant administration such as record keeping. The candidate will work closely with the support team at the Van Geest Centre for Brain Repair.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum qualification of HNC or equivalent.
A chemistry background is essential for understanding chemical structures, experiments and methods, as is good attention to detail. This is a highly collaborative role, working as part of a close-knit team, and therefore good communication and teamworking skills are essential. Nevertheless, the person must also be able to work on their own initiative and organise their time and workload accordingly.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
