Senior Researcher in Arctic Permafrost Research

We are inviting applications for a part-time senior researcher position (approx. 20%) to join the DTU team fulfilling the major research objectives within the EU project ILLUQ on permafrost pollution and health. As a member of the team, you will be involved in research on critical infrastructure at risk from permafrost thaw in Arctic communities. You will also have specific responsibility for the project’s engagement in citizen science and community internships.

Responsibilities and qualifications

As a successful candidate you will have good knowledge of citizen science work within permafrost and of working with various aspects of critical infrastructure on permafrost in Arctic communities. We expect experience with involving and supervising students and organizing internships related to permafrost challenges that exist in Arctic communities on permafrost.

You must have knowledge on monitoring methods of permafrost to detect warming and settlement of permafrost and its impact on Arctic societies. As part of the ILLUQ team you will be coordinating and developing a concept for citizen science efforts across the Nordic and Canadian Arctic and will be responsible for establishing community internships across the project field sites. You are expected to publish results and experiences from the project and contribute to fundraising for future activities.

You must contribute to teaching at the Department. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher or postdoc. To be appointed as a senior researcher, you must have completed a didactic/pedagogic education. If you do not have the necessary education, then it is possible to complete this requirement within a period of two years of appointment.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The position is a part-time position with an expected time dedication of approx. 20%. Starting date according to mutual agreement.
