UNIVERSITY OF LATVIA (Registration No. 90000076669), Faculty of Education Science and Psychology, Educational Research Institute invites applications for one senior researcher position in the area of education management, with specialization in civic and citizenship education.
The position is intended to strengthen research in civic and citizenship education, education management, and international large scale studies at the Educational Research Institute. The successful candidate will contribute to international and national education research, with a particular focus on civic and citizenship education, students' civic knowledge, attitudes, participation, and the factors associated with these outcomes.
The position entails the leadership and coordination of the implementation of the IEA International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS) in Latvia, encompassing research planning, data collection and analysis, interpretation and dissemination of results, and cooperation with national and international partners.
The candidate will also contribute to research on education management, civic and citizenship education, and transversal skills, participate in the development and implementation of national and international research projects, cooperate with the education and public sectors, and contribute to the supervision and mentoring of students and early-career researchers.
The primary responsibilities of the position are as follows:
- the primary objective of this project is to conduct and promote research in the following areas: civic and citizenship education, education management, education policy, and large-scale education studies;
- the implementation of the IEA International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS 2027) in Latvia is being led and coordinated;
- the role involves the oversight of research planning, data collection, data management, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of ICCS results in accordance with IEA requirements and national research procedures;
- the collection, processing and analysis of large-scale quantitative data is to be undertaken using statistical software and research-specific databases and applications, including WinW3S, IDB Analyzer, Coding Expert, StudyExpert, Assessment Master, and other relevant tools;
- the preparation of scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals is undertaken for indexing in internationally recognized databases, including Scopus and Web of Science;
- the presentation of research findings is to be made at national and international scientific conferences;
- the development and implementation of new research projects, as well as the attraction of external funding from national and international sources, are of paramount importance;
- the institution's mission is twofold: firstly, to provide support for the involvement and professional development of early-career researchers, and secondly, to promote international research collaboration;
- collaborations have been established with educational institutions, schools, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia, and other public-sector institutions;
- the provision of expert input on the results of international comparative education studies and their application in education policy and practice in Latvia is a key objective;
- the dissemination and communication of research findings to academic, professional, policy, media, and wider public audiences is of paramount importance;
- the execution of administrative and organizational tasks pertaining to the implementation and management of research projects is imperative.
Main qualification requirements:
- PhD in Education Management;
- advanced or expert-level competencies in The European Competence Framework for Researchers areas most relevant to the position. These include conducting and managing research, project management, research data management, analytical and strategic thinking, collaboration and networking, disseminating research, and increasing its impact on policy and society;
- language requirements: Latvian (Mother Tongue), English (Excellent).
Specific Requirements:
- experience in international comparative education studies, particulary in large-scale assessment studies;
- demonstrated experience with the IEA International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS);
- experience of managing and coordinating national and international research projects;
- experience of analysing large-scale quantitative datasets using statistical software and research-specific data analysis tools;
- experience of preparing scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science;
- experience of presenting research findings at international scientific conferences;
- ability to collaborate effectively with national and international research partners, educational institutions, and public-sector organisations;
- experience in disseminating research findings to academic, policy, professional, and wider public audiences;
- experience in mentoring early-career researchers and contributing to the development of research capacity will be considered an advantage.
