Senior Simulation Technician

The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research. We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.

The role

Join our dynamic Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences as a Senior Simulation Technician, where you will play a crucial part in delivering world-class medical education. Based at our state-of-the-art Surrey Clinical Simulation Centre in the Kate Granger Building and clinical skills facilities in the Leggett Building, you will be at the heart of training the next generation of healthcare professionals.

In this senior technical role, you will lead and inspire a team of Laboratory Technicians, providing guidance, support and development opportunities to ensure exceptional service delivery. You will manage innovative simulation facilities across multiple sites, ensuring the highest standards of safety and operational excellence for up to two hundred students per session. Working closely with academic staff, you will drive innovation by developing and improving practical experiments, creating Standard Operating Procedures that enhance the student learning experience.

Your technical expertise will be essential in providing expert support for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, maintaining sophisticated clinical simulation equipment including mannequins, computer-based systems and specialised apparatus. You will ensure compliance excellence by overseeing Health and Safety protocols, waste disposal procedures, and equipment testing and certification. Your problem-solving skills and quick thinking will be vital in minimising disruptions and keeping our busy teaching facilities running smoothly. Additionally, you will shape the future by training demonstrators and students, contributing to Open Days, Applicant Days, and widening participation events that inspire prospective healthcare professionals.

About you

The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate a strong customer focus and understanding of what students, academic staff and external stakeholders will require from them. The role requires a proactive individual, with an attitude open to change and commitment to continuous improvement.

The role will require excellent interpersonal and organisational ability demonstrating adaptability and flexibility with regards to changing workloads and priorities. The successful candidate will need to be able to adapt to different situations and establish rapport with internal and external stakeholders.

What we can offer

In addition to salary, you will receive a yearly incremental pay rise, generous annual leave entitlement of 25 days holiday plus 7 university closure days and 8 bank holidays, a generous pension, access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.

How to apply

Please apply on the University website including a CV and covering letter demonstrating how you meet the essential requirements outlined above and in the role profile. You will also be asked some brief questions to help us understand your suitability for the role.
