Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

This role sits within Software Engineering, working closely with the Data & AI Enablement team to deliver integration and application capabilities that support UC’s evolving digital and data landscape. You will play a key role in connecting systems, enabling data flows, and supporting modern platforms that underpin learning and teaching experiences. You will take technical responsibility across the full software development lifecycle, from analysis and design through to development, testing, and deployment. Delivering robust, scalable, and high-quality software solutions.

Working within Agile teams, you will:

  • Design, build, and maintain system integrations and APIs supporting the Curriculum Management System
  • Develop modern web-based applications and integration services aligned with architectural standards
  • Work with enterprise platforms (e.g. student systems, identity services, and SaaS applications) to enable secure and reliable data exchange
  • Contribute to integration architecture, including RESTful APIs, event-driven patterns, and messaging frameworks
  • Support release planning, troubleshoot system issues, and continuously improve development practices
  • Mentor junior developers, review code and designs, and contribute to technical standards
  • Collaborate closely with Delivery Leads, architects, and stakeholders to ensure successful and timely delivery
  • Contribute to and uphold engineering standards, tools, and practices that enable consistency and quality across Software Engineering.

Mōu | Who You Are

You are a senior software professional who enjoys building high-quality solutions, mentoring others, and contributing to a collaborative and continuously improving engineering environment.

You will also be able to demonstrate experience in:

  • At least 7 years commercial software development experience, using more than one programming language.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (NZQA Level 7) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related software development discipline.
  • Ability to work across team boundaries and influence without direct authority
  • Strong problem-solving skills; able to simplify complex systems and integration challenges
  • Strong experience building web-based applications and APIs using modern frameworks
  • Experience with integration design patterns, including API-led and event-driven architectures
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated testing practices
  • Familiarity with data formats and integration standards (e.g. JSON, XML, REST)
  • Experience working in cloud environments (e.g. AWS, Azure, or similar)

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience with integration platforms (e.g. MuleSoft, Boomi, Azure Integration Services, or similar)
  • Knowledge of authentication and security protocols (e.g. OAuth2, SSO)
  • Experience working with large enterprise systems (e.g. ERP, CRM, Student Management Systems)
