About the Role:

The Senior Technical Specialist provides highly specialised technical support for teaching, learning and production activities within designated facilities. The role is responsible for the operation, maintenance and reliability of specialist technical systems, equipment and environments, ensuring students, staff and relevant external users have safe, consistent and effective access to professional-grade facilities, equipment and workflows that support contemporary teaching and learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

XR Technical Operations

  • Design, implement and maintain advanced XR and real-time production environments supporting immersive, interactive and narrative content.
  • Operate, configure and troubleshoot XR infrastructure, including game engines, real-time compositing, tracking and production control systems.
  • Manage real-time data and rendering workflows, ensuring reliable synchronisation, colour management and multi-platform outputs.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues during live sessions, teaching and productions, minimising disruption and risk.

Resource and Operational Management

  • Plan and allocate XR technical resources, including hardware, system configurations and processing capacity, within budget and policy constraints.
  • Ensure studio readiness and system availability for scheduled teaching and production activities.
  • Monitor system performance and advise on infrastructure maintenance, upgrades, software lifecycle management and emerging XR technologies.
  • Coordinate and adapt production workflows, asset pipelines and delivery standards to meet University requirements.

Supervision, Training and Support

  • Supervise and mentor casual and Earn While You Learn (EWYL) staff supporting XR systems and workstations.
  • Deliver technical inductions and specialist guidance to students and academic staff on XR tools, engines and workflows.
  • Support collaborative operations during peak teaching and production periods.

Documentation, Systems and Compliance

  • Develop and maintain technical and training documentation for XR systems, workflows and best-practice standards.
  • Ensure accurate use of booking, operational and asset management systems in line with governance requirements.

Safety, Risk and Professional Standards

  • Apply occupational health and safety requirements and professional XR production standards across all activities.
  • Ensure XR systems and equipment are safe, compliant and serviceable, participating in inspections, risk assessments and incident reporting.

Teaching, Production and Professional Contribution

  • Provide technical support for teaching, student productions and approved XR projects, including occasional out-of-hours support.
  • Work autonomously within policy frameworks, contributing to team initiatives, continuous improvement and evolving XR practices.
  • Undertake other duties consistent with the scope and classification of the role.

Role Requirements:

  1. As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered
