Remuneration: $111,341 to $120,557 pa (HEW6) (inclusive of $94,084 to $101,872 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)

Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Senior Technician - Physics to join Faculty Operations, Faculty of Science.
Be part of a high-performing technical team delivering real impact across teaching and research at a leading Australian university. As a Senior Technician – Physics, you’ll take ownership of specialised laboratories, provide hands-on technical expertise, and partner with academics to bring practical learning to life in safe, high-quality lab environments. This is a dynamic, hands-on role working across diverse Physics disciplines, where your problem-solving skills and technical depth will be valued every day. You’ll help design and deliver innovative lab solutions, keep critical facilities running at peak performance, and play a key role in shaping an efficient, responsive and service-driven technical support model.

The Faculty Operations team brings together professional staff who play a vital role in supporting teaching and research across the Faculty. Covering areas such as financial management and technical services, the team ensures labs, facilities and operations run efficiently so academics and students can focus on delivering and experiencing high-quality education and research. Within this team, the Technical Services & Space unit includes specialist groups supporting Environmental, Geological and Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Physical Sciences, and Space, Assets, Logistics and Technology. Working as part of a collaborative and service-focused environment, you’ll be supported by experienced leaders and contribute to a team that is responsive, adaptable and committed to delivering excellent outcomes across a diverse range of laboratories and facilities.
What you need to succeed
- Completion of a relevant degree, with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, preferably in a Physics laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex client requirements from diverse stakeholders and translate these into effective experimental, laboratory or technical support solutions using advanced Physics expertise and professional judgement.
- Sound knowledge of and ability to apply core Physics principles to diverse educational and research applications, demonstrating sound theoretical understanding underpinning practical work.
- Experience in developing clear and concise technical documentation and communicating information effectively to support user understanding and safe, effective laboratory operation.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, evaluate systems and processes, and work collaboratively to achieve efficient and effective team-based outcomes in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated ability to promote, implement and sustain a positive health and safety culture within laboratory environments.
- Possession of, or ability to acquire certification for the use of radioactive sources such as a current Radiation Safety Officer Certification or User Licence for sealed and unsealed radioactive sources.
