Senior Writer
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Writer is a senior-level administrative position that reports directly to the Chancellor and will oversee the implementation of special PR projects, operations and communication functions of the Chancellors Office.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepare internal and external correspondence for the Chancellor.
- Develop and edit materials related to reports, such as press releases, video scripts, and blog posts.
- Bring complex ideas and concepts to life through presentations which complement and support a public speaker on-stage.
- Keep up with current issues in labor economics and higher education to accurately reflect those issues in publications, as needed.
- Perform substantive editing, copy editing, and proofreading, as well as reviews and reorganize drafts, provide writing assistance, and rewrite portions of drafts.
- Partner with the Communications department to set editorial strategy, ensuring that content and tone is on brand and of the highest writing and editorial quality.
- Manage and organize the process of writing and editing publications.
- Collaborate with senior staff and lead support staff to coordinate publication production.
- Manage and review the proofreading of reports and other writing projects in various stages of production.
- Write/edit numerous research projects simultaneously.
- Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in English, Journalism, or related field required
- 5 years editorial and writing experience working with media, in a private company, or in a position that deals with economics, workplace issues, and/or postsecondary
- 7 to 10 years experience preferred
Licensing & Certification
- Valid Texas Driver License

Working Conditions
General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
