Course Description/Relevant Employment Duties
Course Description: UN802 Nuclear Reactor Physics / McMaster University
An introduction to nuclear energy and fission energy systems is presented. The energetics of nuclear reactions, interactions of radiation with matter, radioactivity, design and operating principles of fission are presented. Nuclear reactor physics including chain reactions, reactor statics and kinetics, multigroup analysis, core thermalhydraulics and the impact of these topics on reactor design are covered. Special topics such as xenon dynamics, burnup and reactor flux effects on safety are included.
Note: Sessional Lecturers are required to submit course material to UNENE before the course starts so it may be posted on the UNENE website and/or UNENE Learning Management System (as applicable).
Lectures: UNENE format; weekends Saturday/Sunday, 9am to 4pm, including use of Distance Education tools

Required Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD in Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering (or the equivalent combination of education and experience) with specific expertise in nuclear reactor physics. Applicants must demonstrate a proven track record of applying nuclear reactor physics principles and techniques to power reactors. Applicants will be expected use UNENE’s distance education tools; UNENE will provide training if needed. Course content is to be made available online (technical assistance is available if needed).
Preferred Qualifications
Previous university teaching experience is preferred.
Demonstrated experience with online/distance education, including use of student engagement tools and techniques, is beneficial.

*Supplemented Fees- 15.02(a) The employee may be eligible to receive supplemented fees in accordance with Schedule C of the Collective Agreement. The actual rate of pay when in excess of the base rate of pay is deemed to include any supplemented fees owing, to the extent of the excess amount. If the actual rate of pay is less than the sum of the base rate of pay and the supplemented fees owing, then the employee shall receive the difference.
