Shuttle Operator, Transportation and Parking Services, Full-Time/10-Months Per Year
To provide safe, reliable, professional, and customer-focused transportation services for the Mount Community, including inter-campus shuttle operations, transportation to major transit hubs, and support for charter transportation requests. This is a full-time, 10-month per year position (August - May and off in Summer from June - July). Backfill for open shifts may be available and as needed.
Work Location: Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles) and Chalon Campus (West Los Angeles)

Position Hourly Rate: $25.00
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transports members of the Mount Community, including students, faculty, staff, CSJ Sisters, and authorized guests, between the Chalon and Doheny campuses, major transit hubs, and other assigned destinations
- Provides remarkable customer service by greeting, welcoming, and assisting passengers with boarding and exiting vehicles, including passengers requiring ADA accommodations
- Operates shuttles and other MSMU vehicles safely, courteously, and efficiently while complying with all applicable traffic laws, safety regulations, and University policies
- Maintains scheduled routes and transportation assignments by arriving and departing designated stops on time and adhering to established schedules
- Conducts comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete all required inspection reports, ensuring vehicles are safe and operational before service
- Monitors vehicle condition and promptly report mechanical issues, safety concerns, damage, or maintenance needs to Dispatch or the Manager on Duty (MOD)
- Maintains communication with Dispatch, on-site management, and fellow drivers regarding route status, delays, incidents, passenger needs, and operational updates
- Announces route information, stop locations, service interruptions, and delays to passengers in a professional manner
- Monitors traffic, road conditions, weather, and other factors that may affect service and promptly communicate potential impacts to Dispatch or the MOD
- Reports accidents, injuries, vehicle damage, safety concerns, and unusual incidents in accordance with University procedures.
- Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of assigned vehicles, including sweeping, mopping, window cleaning, trash removal, and adherence to lost-and-found procedures
- Utilizes mobile devices, tablets, and transportation software to manage reservations, access route information, communicate with Dispatch, and navigate University systems
- Completes and maintains accurate daily reports, inspection forms, mileage logs, fueling records, and other required documentation.
- Fuels and services assigned gasoline or CNG vehicles as required
- Transports vehicles for maintenance, repairs, inspections, fueling, cleaning, or other assigned operational needs
- Assists with special requests, emergency transportation operations, and charter transportation services as needed
- Maintains all required licenses, endorsements, certifications, and training necessary to perform job duties
- Maintains the highest standards of safety, professionalism, customer service, and regulatory compliance
- Performs other duties as assigned
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must be able to work weekends and adapt to varying schedules
- Performs other job-related duties and special assignments as directed by management
- Assists with University events, emergency transportation operations, training activities, and service disruptions as needed
- Participates in required meetings, training programs, safety briefings, and professional development activities
Job Requirements:
Knowledge: Knowledge of transportation, customer service, and industry best practices; Knowledge of California commercial driving laws, regulations, and safe operating procedures; Knowledge of defensive driving techniques and accident prevention practices; Knowledge of passenger transportation safety requirements, including ADA accessibility procedures; Basic knowledge of vehicle inspection procedures and reporting requirements
Abilities and Skills: Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and supervisors; Ability to exercise sound judgment and make timely decisions in routine and emergency situations; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability; Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in stressful situations; Strong customer service, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; Ability to safely operate passenger vehicles with seating capacities of up to 33 passengers; Ability to safely load, secure, and unload passengers, including individuals utilizing mobility devices; Ability to utilize mobile devices, tablets, navigation systems, and transportation software; Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events; Ability to work outdoors and in varied weather conditions; Ability to bend, kneel, squat, climb steps, enter and exit vehicles repeatedly throughout a shift, and adjust vehicle seating, mirrors, and other equipment necessary for safe vehicle operation; Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
Education: High school diploma, GED or equivalent
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of customer service experience; Minimum of two (2) years of experience operating commercial passenger vehicles with a Class B Commercial Driver License and Passenger Endorsement; Experience transporting passengers in a university, transit, hospitality, healthcare, or similar customer-focused environment preferred; Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures
Licenses and Certifications: Valid California Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger (P) endorsement required; Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Medical Card) required; Must maintain eligibility under the California DMV Employer Pull Notice (EPN) Program; Must maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment
Other Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment background check, DOT drug and alcohol screening, and any subsequent testing required by federal regulations; Must comply with all applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (DOT), California Highway Patrol (CHP), state, local, and University policies and regulations; Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; Must maintain all required licenses, endorsements, certifications, and qualifications as a condition of employment; Must be available to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, emergency operations, and special events as needed; Must successfully complete University-provided defensive driving, passenger assistance, ADA, customer service, and safety training programs
