Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of two (2) years of related simulation lab experience OR demonstrated strong technical IT proficiency.
- Technical knowledge of computer operations, basic network configuration, and foundational programming concepts.
- Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Apple/macOS systems.
- Ability to work with schedules, calendars, and email systems effectively.
- Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain simulation equipment, AV systems, and related technologies to ensure optimal performance.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to support simulation activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates Degree or Bachelor of Science degree in a health or technology accredited field
- IT Certified or can demonstrate advanced IT knowledge, including computer hardware, software installation, system configuration, and network troubleshooting.
- More than two (2) years of experience in clinical simulation operations or comparable healthcare technical experience.
- Experience supporting high-fidelity simulators such as those from Laerdal Medical and Gaumard Scientific.
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with audiovisual recording systems used for simulation capture and debriefing.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced academic environment.
- Previous medical experience in any field
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines consistently.
Job Description
The purpose of this position is to work collaboratively with the Simulation Laboratory Manager and the Director, Simulation and Interprofessional Education (IPE) to ensure operational readiness of state-of-the-art simulation laboratories in the School of Nursing and to provide assistance to nursing faculty, staff, and students.
Job Duties
The Simulation Lab Information Specialist is responsible for the technical operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of high-fidelity medical simulators, audiovisual capture systems, and supporting IT infrastructure within the Nursing Simulation Lab. This position serves as the primary technical resource for simulation hardware, software, network connectivity, and debriefing technologies.
- Provides logistical support for the daily simulated learning activities, including set-up and tear-down of lab rooms, cleaning, laundry, equipment maintenance, and room restocking. Assists with inventory maintenance, including stocking, pulling, labeling, packaging, and physical inventory of lab supplies, equipment, and tools.
- Assists in operating, programming, and maintaining high-fidelity simulators, medication carts, and computer stations.
- Maintains beds and patient care equipment as needed. Provides technical assistance to and/or operates simulation technology for faculty and simulation lab users.
- Set up hardware and software in the labs as necessary. Forwards unresolvable issues to the Simulation Lab Manager and/or Director of Simulation and IPE, other University departments, and/or vendors as needed. Serves as a liaison between vendors, manufacturers, simulation lab staff, and faculty.
- Maintains records on simulation software licensing, equipment usage, utilization trends, and available resources.
- Makes recommendations to the Simulation Lab Manager and/or Director of Simulation and IPE on hardware and software purchases based upon evaluation of available products and their capabilities.
- Assists the American Heart Association Training Center Coordinator with program administration and recordkeeping.
