Simulation and Lab Technician
Job Description
Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Simulation and Lab Technician. The Simulation and Lab Technician will serve the Nevada State University Health Science Lab by providing lab resources and Simulation technology support that support the education of nursing students as well as any external users. This position will provide lab support for setup/breakdown of low fidelity physical assessment and skills labs, run high fidelity simulations, as well as assist to maintain scheduling, inventory tracking, and ordering.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinating and organizing all teaching sessions.
- Coordinating and organizing all high-stakes examination sessions.
- Set-up and break-down of physical assessment and skills labs.
- Assists with maintaining inventory and par levels, for disposable and non-disposable supplies so they are ready for use at all times.
- Pre-set/stock all labs and simulation areas so supplies are available for faculty.
- Operates and maintains teaching session/exam equipment (A/V software, cameras, video recorders, manikins, task trainers) and supplies.
- Assists Coordinator and Director to coordinate, prepare, and maintain schedules, equipment, and other required resources for all exam sessions and all teaching sessions.
- Assists in overseeing the management and archiving of old video files and exam and evaluation data to the servers, including paper and digital forms.
- Troubleshoots A/V equipment when problems arise.
- Facilitates repair and maintenance of laboratory equipment when needed.
- Provide support for high-fidelity simulations, including but not limited to: Provides technology support for simulation sessions including A/V system, manikin, task trainers, video recorders, and computer systems; Coordinates with faculty to ensure simulation scenarios are accurate.
- Assist to ensure Faculty & Learners are oriented to capabilities, limitations, safety & proper use of all simulation manikins, trainers, AV, and Health Science Lab equipment.
- Frequent indoor standing and walking. Occasional (<33% of workday) lifting, moving, and positioning of manikins, task trainers, and boxes of supplies (up to 50 lbs). Moving wheeled beds/stretchers. Safely work with sharp medical supplies, sharps containers, and simulated blood and body fluids.
- Work independently and in a collaborative environment which will consist of a diverse population of users, staff, faculty, and learners.
- Attend ongoing education and training offered by the simulation center to maintain proficiency in the center's expectations.
- Exercise discretion and ensure a high level of confidentiality.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors preferred with 2 years of experience, or combination of equivalent work experience and education (Associate's degree and 4 years of experience or High School Diploma and 6 years of experience).
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and written.
- Collaborate and communicate with simulation center faculty, staff, and students.
- Ensure standards are followed in collaboration with simulation staff on duty.
- Proficient in network technology.
- Proficient at working with audio/visual equipment and computers (hardware, software, basic applications).
- Ability to multi-task & flexibility to rapidly changing user needs & schedules.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
