Simulation and Skills Lab Technician
Randolph-Macon College is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Simulation and Skills Lab Technician to support the delivery of top-quality simulation experiences and nursing skill labs. In this vital 10-month, full-time position (August-May), the technician will work closely with the Simulation and Skills Lab Coordinator and Nursing Program faculty to ensure the effective setup, operation, and management of simulations in the nursing simulation center, contributing directly to the hands-on education and clinical preparedness of our nursing students.
Responsibilities:
- Perform set-up, reset and take-down of simulation and skills lab activities as directed by Simulation and Skills Lab Coordinator
- Execute high-fidelity simulations according to scripts/scenario progressions and portray simulated patients
- Collaborate with Simulation and Skills Lab Coordinator and clinical faculty in the planning, design and execution of simulations
- Manage operation of audio-visual system to record/playback simulations
- Learn basic operation of task trainers, simulators and durable medical equipment
- Possess and maintain active BLS for Healthcare basic and instructor certifications
- Administer BLS for Healthcare Workers courses as mandated by Nursing program administration
- Perform administrative duties such as data entry and forms creation
- Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of lab assets
- Assist Simulation and Skills Lab Coordinator in assessment of programmatic needs
- Acquires requisite knowledge and skills necessary to obtain certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) within two years of hire
- Attends in-service trainings, webinars, seminars and conferences as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum of 3 years of previous healthcare experience (EMT, LPN, RN, etc.)
- Working knowledge of acute healthcare, basic medical terminology and anatomy and physiology.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision, including learning new software/hardware.
- Ability to think critically and exercise independent judgment.
- Competent computer skills with basic knowledge of computer hardware, Microsoft Office suite software and networking.
- Occasional nights and weekends may be necessary to support lab operations
- Ability to participate in team lifting of high-fidelity simulators weighing in excess of 75 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, stoop and lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds for short distances.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience in healthcare simulation
