Job Summary/Basic Function
Under the direction of the Simulation Center Director, the incumbent will provide technical support for all simulation operations, including preparation, maintenance, and repair of computerized manikins (software and hardware), task trainers, database driven multi-camera digital recording systems and related multimedia peripherals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or Associate's degree in technology with certification in a health-related field and 4 years of relevant experience OR a Bachelor's degree in technical field and 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Paramedic equivalent medical knowledge with the ability to manipulate physiologic data and interpret participants' responses to a scenario.
  • Knowledge of patient simulation, computer hardware/software and audio/video equipment.
  • Experienced in use of MS software and internet/database as relevant to simulation. Ability to learn new software/hardware quickly and independently.
  • Troubleshoot and repair technical equipment as well as working under time restraints.
  • Self-motivated requiring little supervision and flexibility with work hours.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytic/problem solving skills.
  • Team player and multi-tasker.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and express technical information clearly yet simply to non-technical persons.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SIM-Tech Certification or RN, EMT-P, Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Technology or Engineering.

Essential Functions and percent of time
70%

  • Understands use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulations, full body patient simulators, and virtual reality surgical simulators.
  • Assists faculty in incorporating simulation technology into curricula.
  • Maintains proficiency in existing and emerging simulation technologies, including basic theory.
  • Develops, acquires, and installs digital audiovisual hardware and software systems to record simulated sessions with subsequent editing and transfer into an archival format for analysis.
  • Supports use of digital media and web stream creation for education and professional distribution, back-ups content, and provides advanced troubleshooting.
  • Provides technical support for computer-based multimedia systems and their components including operation of digital cameras, video cameras, audio video mixer, digital/analog convertor, monitors LCD projector, anesthesia machines, computer terminals, and other equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance, backups and troubleshooting of database driven digital video recording systems, identifies new simulation opportunities.
  • Utilize available resources and tools to create a realistic learning environment to include: scenario stage development, medical moulage creation and application for human participants, and partaking in role-play.
  • Maintains accurate electronic inventory of supplies and equipment and conducts routine inventory updates.
  • Provides recommendations for budgeting and purchase of equipment, supplies and materials.

  • Acts as liaison with vendors, simulation manufacturers and other simulation centers.
  • Communicates in a positive, professional manner with faculty, instructors, students, and other users of the simulation center upholding the standards of the university's customer service program.
  • Serves as a medical simulator technician by programming, testing, and running procedural low, midrange, and high-fidelity scenarios through the use of task trainers and mannequin-based simulators assuring the facility and equipment are set-up for teaching and research sessions.
  • Runs simulation scenarios and revises simulation scenarios to meet educational level of students and established educational objectives.

Working Conditions
Simulation Center in an office/business environment. Work requires occasional heavy physical lifting of equipment and management/utilization of advanced medical devices. Special contract position with continuation dependent on funding. Special contract terms and conditions of employment apply.
