Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in nursing, health sciences, educational technology or a related field, or four (4) years of progressively responsible instructional or related work experience, or any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a simulation laboratory, healthcare setting, education, or information technology or related technical environment.
- Proven experience with simulation equipment, low and high-fidelity manikins, audiovisual equipment, interactive media, medical equipment.
- Proven experience in hardware/software installation, use, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Experience managing budgets, supplies, and/or procurement processes.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty in planning and supporting simulated learning experiences.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for lab promotion, outreach, and visitor engagement.
- Proficiency in the use of computer systems, networks, software (Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), hardware, and internet connections.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in healthcare simulation education or operations.
- Management experience in a simulation laboratory, healthcare setting, or related technical environment.
- Demonstrated success in staff and faculty team building in a simulation lab or similar setting.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent staff supervision, evaluation, and leadership skills.
- Ability to create project schedules and timelines and to manage deviations from the planned schedule.
- Familiarity with outcome reporting and data collection for program evaluation.
- Understanding of fiscal budgets and budget management, including purchasing systems, inventory control systems, and purchasing processes.
- Experience in building and promoting community relationships.
- Ability to evaluate and recommend optimal simulation technology to best meet the learning objectives of the various courses in conjunction with faculty.
- Experience troubleshooting problems with simulation systems, including repair of simulation equipment and systems to maintain optimal functionality.
- Prepare and present reports and simulation lab outcome measures to the SON Director, Simulation Director, faculty and other stakeholders.
- Mechanical ability: repair and maintain simulation equipment and systems to maintain optimal functionality of the systems and equipment.
Job Description:
The lab manager position will oversee the daily operations of the simulation laboratories in the School of Nursing under the direction of the Director, Simulation and IPE. The position will ensure operational readiness of state-of-the-art simulation laboratories in the School of Nursing (SON), and assists nursing faculty, staff, and students with use of the equipment and supplies in the labs. The job duties include budgetary maintenance, supply purchases, supervision and evaluation of staff and student workers, planning for simulated learning experiences with faculty, and oversee performance improvement processes for the lab. Additional responsibilities include the routine installation, operation, and maintenance of hardware, software, simulation lab equipment, and audiovisual and interactive television equipment; recommends new services and acquisition of equipment, hardware, software, and supplies; coordinates and maintains computer hardware and software inventory; and develops and maintains policies and procedures.
Job Duties:
- Manages the simulation lab’s disposable/supply budget, inventory.
- Purchases lab supplies, disposable equipment, software, hardware and equipment.
- Directly supervises work study students, graduate assistants, and temporary workers within the simulation laboratories.
- Participates in development, implementation, and maintenance of simulation laboratory policies and procedures.
- Serves as the primary contact for simulation lab faculty, users, and learners.
- Collaborates with the Sim Lab Director and the Standardized Patient Coordinator to schedule and plan simulated learning experiences within the simulation laboratories.
- Instructs and orients sim lab users to the operation, care, and use of simulation technology, equipment and AV systems.
- Oversees performance improvement processes regarding simulation.
- Prepares utilization and outcomes reports in collaboration with the Sim Lab Director.
- Acts as the Director in the absence of the Sim Lab Director.
- Ensures the daily maintenance and operations of the simulation laboratories maintaining a professional, clean, and safe learning environment.
- Provides logistical support to faculty for simulation activities.
- Assists with faculty training and development of simulation skills.
- Serves as liaison between the simulation laboratory and the manufacturers of technology, audiovisual, and simulation equipment.
