Simulation Operations Specialist

Overview

The Simulation Operations Specialist assumes responsibility and technical support for simulation operations, including set up, management and maintenance of high-fidelity mannequins, task trainers, and audiovisual systems.

Key responsibilities include operating simulation equipment, troubleshooting advanced technical issues, managing inventory, and supporting simulation facilities functionality and safety.

Simulation Equipment and Center Maintenance

  • Acts as simulator operator for all simulation equipment, including high-fidelity mannequins, task trainers, software, hardware and audiovisual systems.
  • Responsible for cleanliness, functionality, safety, routine maintenance and repair of all simulation equipment, audiovisual systems and facilities.
  • Routinely inspects and tests simulation equipment and audiovisual systems for functionality and efficiency.
  • Manages simulation inventory of supplies and technology infrastructure, tracking usage, restocking and ordering replacements.
  • Practices safe disposal of hazardous materials.

Simulation Program and Content Support

  • Collaborates with YCHS faculty and instructors to design, implement and prepare simulation scenarios and programs to support educational needs and training curricula.
  • Performs technical assistance, troubleshooting and on-site support for faculty, instructors and learners during all simulation programs and activities.
  • Educates faculty and staff in technological characteristics of simulation.
  • Assists with simulation program preparation including equipment procurement, simulated injuries, moulage, and props.

Administrative Support

  • Provides accurate and detailed documentation of simulation center activities and programs.
  • Provides timely, thorough and professional responses to faculty and instructor requests.
  • Prepares documentation and instructions of simulation equipment and technology for non-technical users.

Professional Development

  • Remains current in simulation technology trends, advancement and innovation.
  • Willingness to pursue continuous improvement in knowledge regarding simulation technology, audiovisual systems, and educational instruction.

Required Skills and Abilities

Required Skill/Ability 1:
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. These skills will be particularly important for the simulation technician who will have close interactions with medical students, residents and faculty throughout Yale Medical School.

Required Skill/Ability 2:
Demonstrated experience with virtual reality platforms (Meta Goggles preferred)

Required Skill/Ability 3:
Demonstrated confidence, diplomacy and professionalism to lead, motivate and interact successfully with health care providers at Yale School of Medicine.

Required Skill/Ability 4:
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams. Ability to organize, prioritize and manage assignments and projects. Knowledge of audio-visual systems design and engineering practices.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Basic knowledge of simulation electronics including familiarity with high-fidelity patient simulators such as SimMan3G, SimBaby, and SimMom.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Serves as a principal source of information to faculty, students and support staff on standardized and specialized media production techniques and equipment operation.
  2. Explains and describes the use and operation of video equipment and editing techniques through classroom lectures and in response to inquiries.
  3. Plans and schedules video productions.
  4. Operates specialized and standardized video camera, editing, and duplicating systems.
  5. Conducts research related to video productions.
  6. Maintains and repairs specialized and standardized video equipment.
  7. Oversees and instructs support staff in the use and operation of media equipment.
  8. Performs additional functions incidental to media technician activities.

Required Education and Experience

Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
