Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting the Sir Mark Dunajtschik Chair of Mechatronics to join Te Kura Mātai Pūkaha Pūrorohiko - School of Engineering and Computer Science on a permanent full-time contract.
In this role you will be responsible for leading the research and industry engagement in Mechatronics Engineering at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington.
The position is appointable at Ahorangi - Professor or Ahonuku - Associate Professor rank, depending on the experience of the successful candidate.
Key responsibilities:
- Research: Lead groundbreaking research projects in the field of Mechatronics, focusing on an area such as robotics, automation, systems engineering, space engineering, medical technologies, sensor technology or similar subdisciplines.
- Teaching: Develop and deliver engaging undergraduate courses, inspiring students to become future leaders in the field.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to students and staff, fostering their academic and professional growth.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with industry partners, government agencies, and other academic institutions to advance the field of Mechatronics and develop work-integrated learning opportunities for students.
- Service: Contribute to the School, Faculty, and University through service activities and leadership roles.

You are a leading academic in Mechatronics with a passion for teaching and engaging in research. You are student-focused and have a dedication for inspiring the next generation of engineers. You bring a positive attitude to staff and students alike and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Key requirements:
- PhD in Mechatronics or a closely related field.
- A strong record of research, publications, and grant acquisition.
- Excellent teaching skills and a passion for inspiring students.
- Experience in industry or academia, demonstrating a deep understanding of the field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
