Skills and Simulation Faculty
Position Overview
The Skills and Simulation faculty supports experiential learning in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs in collaboration with faculty. Main responsibility is to prepare for all clinical simulation and skills lab activities within the College of Nursing. This position works closely with faculty to plan and implement high-quality simulation and hands-on learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students. Key responsibilities include preparing and operating simulation and skills lab sessions and supporting faculty and learners during educational activities. This 12-month associated faculty position reports to the Assistant Dean of Simulation.
Performance Objectives
- Setup and breakdown of skills labs, simulations, practice sessions, and assessments.
- Ensure that simulation labs are well-organized, clean and orderly at all times.
- Facilitate student open simulation lab times.
- Assist with facilitation of simulation logistics such as scheduling, room assignments, equipment allocation, student daily simulation schedules etc.
- Facilitate use of simulation technology incorporated into educational activities such as moving, turning on and running manikins and audio-visual equipment.
- Manage supply inventory and restocking supplies to support simulation education activities.
- Work with the IT specialists on equipment maintenance: cleaning, quality assurance checks, and requesting repairs.
- Supervise student simulation lab assistants who perform supportive lab tasks such as recycling supplies, assisting with lab set-ups and simulated role portrayals.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of simulation equipment, software, and operation manuals.
- Utilize various technologies and platforms to support daily operations and programmatic needs.
- Participate in TLC tours, outreach programs, and other promotional activities.
- Work schedule is primarily Monday–Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Occasional early morning, evening, or weekend hours may be required. This is an on-site position and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.
Responsibility:
80% Preparing and operating simulation and skills lab sessions, managing inventory and scheduling, maintaining equipment, and supporting faculty and students during educational activities. Assists with planning and scheduling clinical education activities.
20% Oversees purchasing, coordinates standardized patient activities, and ensures the simulation environment meets institutional standards. Participate in TLC tours, outreach programs, and other promotional activities.
Education and Experience Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a medical or healthcare-related field required. Nursing degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in nursing, healthcare simulation, or a related field.
Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work as part of a team.
Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with simulation-based education, Microsoft Office, and A/V equipment.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 50 lbs.
