Position Summary: The Social/Clinical Research Assistant (RA) will support clinical and research activities led by Drs. Laura Milko and Jonathan Berg. This role involves helping coordinate research teams within the Clinical Genome Resource (ClinGen) and Age-Based Genomic Screening (ABGS) projects. Tasks include scheduling meetings, drafting emails, keeping track of project updates, and helping create and edit research materials like protocols and presentations. The RA will primarily work with Dr. Milko on the ABGS project. A major part of this role involves community outreach acting as a point of contact between the research team and our Community Research Board and other partner organizations. The RA will help plan and prepare for public genetics education events, including making materials like flyers and newsletters, and attending events about once a month (occasionally on a weekend day). The RA will also learn how to manage the ABGS website and handle data collected through surveys, using tools like Qualtrics and REDCap. When the ABGS pilot launches in summer 2025, the RA will support clinical coordination, helping manage genetic samples and guide participants through the consent process. Other tasks will include recruiting and enrolling participants, working with clinic staff, collecting and entering survey data, tracking incentives, and ensuring everything runs smoothly and is well-documented. For the ClinGen project, the RA will support working groups by organizing meeting logistics, taking notes, helping with presentations and spreadsheets, and staying in touch with team members and project leaders.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team. Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and follow-through. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive). Basic understanding of genetics and interest in biomedical or public health research. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with diverse audiences. Professionalism, dependability, and a willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic research environment. If selected, applicant needs to be able to start between May 26 (ideal) and June 6 (at the latest)
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Course work in a scientific, health-related, or social science field (e.g., genetics, biology, public health, psychology, sociology). Research experience, particularly in clinical or community-based settings. Experience with data collection platforms such as REDCap and Qualtrics. Familiarity with website platforms such as WordPress and/or basic content management tools. Experience with community outreach or public engagement, particularly in health-related settings. Interest in qualitative research or experience conducting interviews, focus groups, or thematic analysis. Multilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish or other languages) is a plus. Familiarity with IRB processes or research ethics and compliance. Experience tracking participant engagement or managing study incentives.
