Why Your Role Matters:The Capability Systems Centre (CSC) is looking to employ a Software Developer, to work on applied research projects focused on developing dynamic decision analytics, including simulation, optimisation, and visualisation. The successful candidate will work closely with the systems modelling team and foster productive collaborations with University and Defence stakeholders.

In this role, you will work with a highly interdisciplinary research team—software engineers, modelling and analytics scientists, and domain experts—developing innovative, evidence‑based decision support tools. CSC, contributes directly to high‑impact, high‑profile government and industry projects. Our work informs real‑world policy and operational decisions.

Who You Are (skills and experience):

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in software development, including designing, implementing, and maintaining application components
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. Java, Python) and working with shared codebases
  • Sound understanding of software development practices, including version control (e.g. Git), testing, debugging, and Agile methodologies
  • Experience with data-driven applications and working with relational or non-relational databases
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and deliver solutions with varying levels of supervision
  • Ability to interpret requirements and translate them into functional technical solutions, working both independently and collaboratively
  • Effective communication, time management, and organisational skills, with a commitment to continuous learning, workplace values, and safety standards
