St. George's University invites applicants for a full-time Psychotherapist role in the Psychological Services Centre (PSC) in the School of Medicine, beginning 3/2/2026

Job Description

Objective

To promote psychological wellness at St. George's University, by providing mental health services, training opportunities, prevention programs and other activities.

Licensed Mental Health Clinician: Applications are now being accepted for a full time, non-teaching, permanent position as a licensed mental health practitioner in the Psychological Services Center (PSC) at St. George's University (SGU) on the island of Grenada in the Eastern Caribbean.

We are seeking an early, or mid-career generalist with a strong interest in working with international and Caribbean students in a university counseling center, and who can work collaboratively to help nurture a healthy campus environment.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the following areas: men's issues, substance abuse, trauma, sexual assault prevention, assessment/psychological testing, psychotherapy and outreach with underserved/underrepresented minority groups.

Essential Functions

  • The clinician's primary responsibility is to provide direct clinical services, including group, individual and couples counseling to SGU students, staff, faculty, and their dependents. The potential candidate should have experience working with a wide range of mental health concerns and levels of severity, as well as have experience providing consultation.
  • Psychological assessments, outreach, and training for a variety of groups. All PSC members take part in outreach and prevention efforts as well as provide after-hours emergency service. Following are essential elements of the work of the clinician.
  • Provides assessment and psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families and groups, including SGU students and employees and their relational partners.
  • Participates in liaison, consultation and training activities with various departments, faculty and others in the university community.
  • Participates in psychological emergency, disaster and trauma response.
  • Maintains client privacy and confidentiality and abides by other appropriate legal and ethical standards.
  • Keeps complete record of services according to ethical and legal standards and as outlined in the procedural manual.
  • Participates in the design, implementation and evaluation of outreach and other programs to enhance student, employee and significant other wellness and development, foster multicultural learning and inform about a variety of health and social issues on campus.
  • Works with a multidisciplinary treatment team when necessary.
  • Participates in departmental review, peer review, faculty meetings and special committee when required.
  • Any other related duties assigned by the Director of the PSC and/or Assistant Vice President of Health Services.

Supplemental Activities

  • Participates in various department projects to assist with mental health needs of the Grenadian community as approved by the Director of Psychological Services Center and/or Assistant Vice President of Health Services.

Research and Scholarly Activities:

  • Conducts research appropriate to department mission and priorities.

Service

Participate in the following University activities:

  • Faculty Senate
  • Departmental Reviews (as required)
  • Special Committee Assignments (as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Health Services)

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • Have a master's degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or clinical social work.
  • Be licensed as a mental health professional in a jurisdiction approved by St. George's University.

Desirable Qualities

  • Experience and expertise working with university students and staff, including crisis assessment, management, and intervention, short-term treatment, outreach and referrals.
  • Ability to complete intakes, psychological assessments, emergency evaluations, progress notes, and termination summaries according to established policies and procedures.
  • Experience and expertise working with men around issues related to this population.
  • Experience and expertise working in settings with more severe populations.
  • Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple clinical situations and to coordinate these efforts as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships.
  • Collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and ethical commitment to multicultural issues/social justice and proven ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional ideals, standards and ethics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Administrative and computer application skills required to effectively implement and maintain a case management and tracking system.
