Job Summary
The Southern Adventures Program Coordinator leads and manages a comprehensive outdoor adventure program, Southern Adventures, consisting of: adventure trips, challenge courses, climbing wall/bouldering cave, rental center, and campus cycle.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, and supervise 20 to 30 student staff including graduate assistant(s), program assistant(s), student trip leaders, challenge course facilitators, climbing wall and rental center attendants
- Foster leadership development through outdoor adventure programming
- Develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate creation and marketing of adventure trips, challenge courses, climbing wall/bouldering cave programming, rental center, campus cycle, and clinics
- Purchase and maintain rental center and program equipment and inventory
- Manage facilities related to program area including climbing wall and challenge course
- Foster community and campus partnerships, including academic groups in support of the Southern Adventures Program
- Review and enforce policies and procedures
- Maintain and utilize risk management best practices, and maintain industry standards
- Assist with department and/or facility special events and serve on University and departmental work teams and committees
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in recreation, management, or a related field
Other Required Qualifications
Wilderness First Responder certified or ability to attain within six months of hire
First Aid/CPR/AED certified
Required Experience
One (1) or more years of related work experience
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Membership and active participant in NIRSA and/or AORE
CPR/AED and FA Instructor certified
ACCT Challenge Course Level I, II, and/or Manager certification
Climbing Wall Instructor certification
Single Pitch Instructor certification
Preferred Education
Master's Degree
Preferred Experience
Experience within a University setting
Experience leading adventure trips and water-based trips
Supervisory experience
Proposed Salary
$20.71 - $23.29 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a bi-weekly basis.
