"Special Events Officer"

Position Summary

Join the San Diego State University Police Department and make a meaningful impact in our dynamic campus community! We are seeking experienced law enforcement professionals for part-time Special Event Officer roles. In this position, you'll help keep students, faculty, staff, and visitors safe during athletic events, concerts, and other large campus gatherings.

Key Responsibilities

• Patrol buildings and grounds by foot, bicycle, electric vehicle, motorcycle, and patrol car.
• Protect students, faculty, staff, visitors, property, and facilities from accidents, harm, theft, vandalism, fire, and illegal entry.
• Enforce state laws, local ordinances, and campus traffic/parking regulations; apprehend violators when necessary.
• Control crowds and maintain order during special events or disturbances.
• Respond to emergencies, provide first aid, and assist in evacuations when needed.
• Guard property and facilities to deter crime and ensure safety.
• Investigate incidents such as accidents, property damage, fires, thefts, and disturbances of the peace.
• Gather evidence, make arrests, and appear in court as required.
• Prepare clear, accurate reports on law enforcement and safety incidents.
• Provide information, assistance, and positive engagement to the campus community, supporting the principles of community policing.

Compensation & Position Information

• The pay rate for this position is up to $80 per hour.
• This recruitment will be used to establish a pool of candidates for current and future hourly, intermittent appointments.

Qualifications

• Current or retired peace officer with a California law enforcement agency. The last date of employment must have been within the last three years or have proof of requalification. CalPERS retirees must followretired annuitantrequirements as outlined by CalPERS.
• Must meet current employment standards of the Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) and have completed POST approved Field Training program at home agency.

Specialized Requirements

• Active law enforcement officers are required to obtain authorization from their home agency Chief of Police/Sheriff authorizing them to work on a per diem/hourly basis for San Diego State University.

Licenses/Certifications Required

• Valid California Driver's License.
