Specialist II, Joint Use Library
Purpose and Scope
The Specialist II, Library Joint Use assists students, faculty and the general public in obtaining resources. Circulates library materials and maintains patron records using automated systems. May perform standard and some advanced administrative duties, including but not limited to receiving and logging information, making copies, answering routine questions and inquires, providing information and directions, and providing a customer friendly environment. Interprets and enforces established library policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions
- Uses automated systems to perform circulation services
- Provides information and assistance to library visitors, serving as public contact for the library in person, by telephone and email, and referring patrons to reference librarians when additional assistance is needed
- Participates in the development of documentation for circulation procedures
- Collects money for fines and updates patron records
- Assists library patrons in the use of copy machines
- Interprets and enforces circulation policies and procedures for the public and for college staff
- Participates in shelf reading, collection inventory project and facilities monitoring
- Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

- Strong attention to detail and customer service skills
- Ability to use software products
- Ability to work on multiple projects
- Ability to document expenses
- Ability to work some nights and/or weekend shifts
- Able to lift 30-40lbs
Physical Abilities
The work requires physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. The work may require specific, but not common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.
Working Schedule and Conditions
Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment. Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position. Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or higher.
Salary
Hiring salary range is $31,200 - $35,880. Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
