Specialist in Cooperative Extension (Professor of Cooperative Extension)-Groundwater Quantity and Quality
Position Overview
The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR), in collaboration with the University of California, Merced, invites applications for a Professor of Cooperative Extension at the Assistant Rank, with the formal title Specialist in Cooperative Extension. This role focuses on groundwater quantity and quality, addressing challenges like drought and climate change through research and extension programs.
The successful candidate will develop applied research on topics including hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry, sustainable groundwater management, contaminants, monitoring, modeling, managed aquifer recharge, and strategic cropping systems. They will collaborate with partners to enhance sustainable groundwater management in California's Central Valley.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement research, education, and outreach programs for sustainable groundwater use and quality.
- Conduct applied research on subsurface hydrology, groundwater modeling, conjunctive use scenarios, climate impacts, and salinity management.
- Extend knowledge through publications, workshops, and collaborations.
- Collaborate with UC ANR academics, advisors, and external agencies.
- Engage with groundwater management professionals and provide expertise to agencies like the California Department of Water Resources.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Hydrogeology, Hydrogeochemistry, or related field.
- Experience in groundwater research and extension.
- Strong communication skills and publication record.
- Ability to travel and obtain a California Driver's License.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary range: $87,700 to $114,800 annually. This is a two-year renewable term appointment with potential for indefinite status. Benefits include vacation, sick leave, holidays, and sabbatical privileges.
Location:
The position is based at the UC West Side Research and Extension Center in Five Points, CA, with a secondary appointment at UC Merced.
