Job Title: Spectrum of Care Clinic Medical Director

Department: Veterinary Medicine | Veterinary Clinical Sciences

Medical Director

Veterinary Medicine | Veterinary Clinical Sciences

The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine

The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking passionate teaching veterinarians with exceptional medical, surgical, dental, business and leadership skills for an open Practice Track faculty position in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences as Medical Director of the Frank Stanton Veterinary Spectrum of Care Clinic.

Position Overview

The Medical Director (MD) for the Frank Stanton Veterinary Spectrum of Care Clinic (SOCC) serves as a key leader responsible for guiding the medical, educational, and operational direction of the clinic. The MD provides strategic vision, oversees daily clinical operations, fosters a culture of teaching and collaboration, and supports the integration of Spectrum of Care (SOC) principles into patient care and student education. The MD partners closely with the Associate Director for Satellite Facilities, SOCC Leadership Team, and Practice Manager (PM) to ensure clinical excellence, student success, and the financial sustainability of the clinic.

In addition, the successful candidate will practice and teach veterinary students in the College’s Frank Stanton Veterinary Spectrum of Care (SOC) Clinic in a full-time practice track faculty position. They will coach final year students as they take the lead in providing veterinary care to patients and engage with clients from a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. In the clinic, students learn multiple approaches to patient management, and a wide range of diagnostic techniques, treatments, and clinical procedures. Students are also taught communication skills, practice management, and business. This clinic is separate from, but adjacent to, our newly remodeled tertiary care veterinary medical center. It is a stand-alone state-of-the-art private practice setting to produce outstanding veterinarians. There are multiple technologies available including those for surgery, dentistry, in-house lab work, and imaging. Fourth-year veterinary students and the Spectrum of Care team provide exceptional primary care and offer a broad range of services to our patients and clients.

In addition to final year students, those from the pre-clinical program also attend shifts in the clinic and practice their clinical and communication skills with coaching oversight. Successful candidates will be coaching students from all years to help them fully develop their confidence and competence before entering practice.

The Impact

Approximately 70% of Ohio State’s College of Veterinary Medicine graduates enter general private practice, becoming the next generation of leaders in our community and profession. The affordability of veterinary care can be a challenge for many clients, and the Frank Stanton Veterinary Spectrum of Care Clinic meets this challenge head-on by training veterinary students to provide a continuum of evidence-based care that considers client expectations and financial limitations, thereby preparing students to successfully serve an economically diverse clientele and to embrace their role in providing this care. These new veterinarians will be competent and confident on their first day of practice, immediately contributing to the success of their practice and their community.
