Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)
About the Project
About the Project:
Spin effects offer a new way to understand and control catalytic reactions. This PhD project will investigate how electron spin, catalyst magnetism and spin-polarised charge transfer influence catalytic activity, selectivity and reaction pathways in energy-relevant chemical transformations.
The student will design spin-active catalytic materials, including transition-metal oxides, spinels, perovskites and related magnetic catalyst systems, and test how composition, defects, strain, interfaces and external fields affect catalytic behaviour. The project may include electrocatalytic reactions such as oxygen evolution and ammonia oxidation, alongside broader studies of how spin state and magnetic order shape surface chemistry.
Candidates Requirements:
Applicants with interests in materials science, catalysis, electrochemistry, solid-state chemistry, physics or chemical engineering are encouraged to apply. The project offers training in catalyst design, advanced characterisation, data-led materials analysis and mechanistic studies within NTU MSE's interdisciplinary energy-materials environment.
